I'm getting a Papillon puppy!!! YIPPEE

Recommended Posts

So very excited :D:D:D

On Friday Archie the Papillon will be the newest member of our family.

My neighbours breeds Papillons and the newest litter, 2 little boys arrived on St Valentines day.

Archie was the smallest of the two and a real character. I fell in love with him when I visited my neigbour just after the pups were born.

On Saturday both pups were taken to the south of Scotland as someone was interested in buying one. I had my fingers crossed that Archie would not be sold, and when he came back I decided that he was meant for me.

Yesterday I went to see my neighbour and told her I would like to have Archie. She was pleased as she will see him most days. All the pups she has bred have gone to homes miles away.

I am not sure how my elderly Cavelier Spaniel will react to Archie. Scooby is a softy and hopefully they will be great friends.

Friday seems a long time coming :( Normally there is only a couple of hours when there is no one at our house, but this week OH has to do a long day shift and I didn't want Archie to be alone for a long time while he is so small. I really wanted to bring him home yesterday.

I am going to see him tonight. My neigbour told me to pop in anytime this week to see him.

:D:D:D:D:D

We used to have a papillon - Zoe she was called - a brave little dog - used to attack alsatians (brave - but stupid!). It means "Butterfly" in French - on account of the triangular pointy ears...

this one isn't ours - but it looks like Zoe's mother that my Grandma had - whose name I forget... (not the grandmother - the dog...)

edit: I've juist remembered her name - Pickles - (the dog, not the grandmother)

they come in black 'n white or brown 'n white... (again - the dogs, not the grandmothers..)

What a lovely name....Pickles :D

Only 3 more sleeps :D:D:D I feel like a child waiting for Christmas day to arrive

I'm tempted to pull a sicky on Friday and collect him in the morning. I've told people at work though so I would probably get found out.

Ali, I'm the opposite to you. give me GSd, Newfoundland (yum yum), Rhodesian Ridgeback, Rottie, Lab, Irish wolfhound etc, any big dog. Lovely. Small dogs though - yuk! Small, fast, yappy and a b==@@y nuisance!

Each to their own, I suppose.

well I'm with you on that Helen, although have a soft spot for Border terriers and Papillons look lovely :) I hate it when a small yappy thing flies at Flint and the owner just says 'oh he hates GSD's because he was attacked by one':roll: doesn't seem to occur to them that their small thing drawing blood on a puppy is not actually the answer or indeed that maybe the Shepherd attacked because it was tired of having small yappy things leaping at it

Mind you we used to have 2 Shepherds and a friend of ours had a Jack Russel and we used to walk them together, the Jack Russel was as brave as a lion and would rush off ahead to take on any other dog, quite often though he mistook the size of his opposition and he would then dash back to Brig and Maya with a definite I'm with them look on his face :):)

Thats OK :D

My fear of large dogs is totally irrational and pathetic :(

hopefully you'll meet some nice ones once you've got your puppy, hope so, some of Flints best friends are little dogs :) there is one tiny little dog who hides underneath Flint when the others get too rough for him, mind you this is the GSD who is less scary than a chicken :roll:

Yes, Martin, but a small dog bit my husband in the stomach so he had to have stitches about 9 years ago. Dog had to be destroyed.

My neighbours have a patterdale terrier which is always nipping my 3 year old.

Another neighbour has a small schnauzer which barks continually if left alone.

There are 2 Jack Russells walked in the same area as my dogs who are always attacking them (they attack my dogs, not the other way round).

The biggest problem with little dogs isnt the dog, it is the way they are raised. Dogs are a pack animal and need a pecking order. If you let a small dog sit on your lap, you are telling it in dog speak that it is higher than you in the pecking order. That tends to lead to them being noisy (barking to defend 'their' territory) and aggressive ('off! mine!'). The best thing you can do with a dog is never let it on the furniture or your lap (however, mine love to come up for a cuddle  ) but as with all things in life, that doesnt happen.

I find owners of big dogs tend to be much more considerate when out with their dogs. A big dog is more noticeable, I suppose. No dogs are allowed in the school grounds, but there are a few persistant offenders who take their terriers, jack russells and dachshunds in, because they can pick them up. If I took my two in, all hell would break out!

We have the no dogs in the playgound too so we now have the schoolgate dogs :):) , all tied up in a row outside the gates to be pounced on by every passing child. Flint was the smallest for about a week and now towers over everyone else. My daughter estimates there are at least 15 schoolgate dogs an everchanging mixture of spaniels, border terriers, Vizlas,Weimeraners and of course the one lovely GSD , usually only 6 or so turn up on any one day though otherwise might be a bit daunting for anyone who didn't like dogs.

I have to say though I never leave Flint until my daughter is in sight more for his safety than anything else, the shepherd always gets the blame when things go wrong  and too many dogs get stolen from outside shops etc round here :(

Haven't got the hang of posting 2 photos in the same message yet  So here is Archie aged 6 months.

This is the scrufffy looking stage as his adult coat has still to grow. His eyes are weepy because his favourite pastime is to dig huge holes at the beach and the sand irritates his eyes
