Ahem.............Cake Recipe

Recommended Posts

Following my roaring success with the tips here I have been baking like a fiend. I wanted to make the lemon drizzle but I'm the only lemon fiend in the house so I made this instead-

Golden Syrup Trickle Cake

#Weigh 2 or 3 eggs in shell

#Use same amounts of sugar butter and sr flour to make plain sponge as per classic method- cream sugar and butter together until light and fluffy, add beaten eggs and flour and a good dollop of golden syrup.

#Bung in a greased small loaf tin on a low-med heat for 20- 25 mins depending on how much mix you made.

#Test with a skewer, if it comes out clean its done.

# Turn out onto a rack then over again (careful!) so it is the right way up.

# Make holes with skewer in top then trickle in Golden Syrup while still hot, a couple of times.

Serve still warm for best flavour

I hope you are all proud of me :D

I'm a cake numpty too :? . It doesn't come easily to me although I keep trying :) . I tried this and had to keep putting it back in the oven 'cos it wasn't cooked (I must not have had it at "moderate" or something :? ). Anyway, it's out now and it's delicious, if a bit crunchy round the edges :D .

Ta da (please note my newly steam-cleaned oven  . I'm also a cleaning numpty so am v. proud of self :) .)

You have my oven ANH :D how sad of me to notice.

How on earth did you get it that clean????

Mine is a bit grubby at the moment

I used the steam cleaner on it - it's hard work but you get great results :D . (I even broke a bit on the cleaner in my enthusiasm but their customer services department is great and they sent me a new bit for free :) .)

I should have taken before and after photos but before was far too embarrassing  .

Mine nearly all disappeared yesterday

I am considering another today would it be cheeky to consider adding some ground ginger to it too?

It amazing the colour difference you get from a bit of golden syrup, mine was a lovely colour inside.

It got a big thumbs up from the children last night, they had it with squirty cream on the side, their idea not mine

Was the famous Omlet steam cleaner? I tried last year with my old steam cleaner which is a sort of tank on wheels with hose type and it didn't do a thing maybe the steam from it is not high pressure enough. I usuallu use oven mate and elbow grease on mine. Oven mate is about the best cleaner for ovens that I have found.
