Sunshine
We have only recently took up camping but we went to a site with quite a few facilities the first time we went and hated it because it was too noisy in the evenings and the actual site was huge. So now we go to ones with basic facilites(toilets/showers/washing up sinks). The one we like at the moment(in Anglesey) is right next to a lovely beach which the dog can go all year round with coastal walks nearby. We have just booked today to go next week so i have a feeling this may be our first camping trip in the rain! BeckyBoo
When I say it had no facilities I mean it had no bar, no shop, it had grass, one shower and two outside toilets! It could have done with somewhere to refreeze my freeze blocks as I ran out of "cold" after two days, luckily I discovered on this trip that the children would happily drink UHT milk so that solved a big problem for cereal in the morning and bed time drinks Be interested to hear everyones favourite campsites, as now I know I can manage three kids a dog and big blue tent on my own, there's nothing stopping me (apart from the rain, I still don't do camping in the rain ) Haven't told OH yet, but we actually had a great time without him , the children often behave better when there's only one of us around and he really prefers better facilities when he goes camping, like a bar for one Mrs B
Clur
Where abouts in the New Forest where you Mrs B? We're going camping in August, but to a site with lots of facilities which I'll either love or hate. We camped last year on a beautiful organic farm, but the weather was terrible and the lack of facilities in that instant hit us --- the showers were solar powered, so freezing, and in wooden sheds (as were the loos), so pretty grim when everything...and I mean everything got caked in mud. So impressed you got the tent up on your own, it'd take me a week!
lizinsa
WOW sounds like you had a fab time, and it must have given you a great sense of satisfaction to have managed it all on your own! This http://www.guardian.co.uk/travel/gallery/2007/aug/28/uk.camping?picture=330643401 is where I want to go next, it looks great! Although a bit different to normal campsites! That sounds like Eweleaze? Someone I spoke to this week had been there and loved it, but I was a bit worried by the reviews that said it was so noisy? Anyway, I went to Acres Down which is basically next left after Rufus Stone Services on the A31, signposted for Emery Down, right at the first crossroads and keep going to the dead end, it's the last (only!) house on the left. Any further up and you're in the forest itself. The place you've linked Lizinsa looks FAB! Going to have a proper look at that one now, although it's one heck of a drive for us. I'd be OK, but I'm not sure I could cope with four hours or more of "Are we there yet?" and the dog snoring like a train!! Mrs B
Guest
we had a caravan when we were little and mum and dad took us camping in the new forest once. Mum said I tried to drag a horse into the car through the window! so, where's your photos?
BeckyBoo
so, where's your photos? The camera and the computer have had a discussion which ended in total disagreement and ended with a trip, by me, to Boots to get them downloaded. I shall, when I've got the children to bed, washed up after tea (hours late!) hoovered, put out the compost, put the chooks to bed, checked on me poorly chook and then poured a glass of wine, put some on here. superjules
Just caught up with this thread. Hellooo fellow happy campers!! Glad you had a good time. We got back on Thursday from four nights at Orchard in Suffolk. OH couldn't come because of work so I took the kids and the dog and invited some other mums from school and we had the most wonderful time. Highly recommend the site. Are you on UKCS forum, Mrs B? Snowy
UKCS is UK Campsite here: http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/ Best place to search for campsites! Mrs B what kind of tent is that you have? Can't see it properly, but it does look at bit like mine and if it is, I need to know how you managed to get it up on your own! My OH can't have any more time off work this summer and I would love to be able to get away with the kids for a while on my own Gorgeous pics, and sprogs and dog by the way
BeckyBoo
It's a Vango something or other, it has a big central living area, two pods, one on each side for sleeping and a porchy type bit, or as we used it - a sleeping pod, a toy tent/play pod, a kitchen and a dogs bed in the middle! It was quite hard to put it up on my own, there's three main poles you have to put in first then once they're in you have to get them up and that was no mean feat with no one on the other end to hold them fast, but now I've done it once I'm (fairly) sure I could do it again, only without spending 40 minutes trying to put the top sheet on the wrong way round It was quite a lot of money but my Great Uncle (now deceased) gave me some money before he died and I bought the tent (and our cube and hens amongst many other things) with it. I was going to take us all on holiday but decided this would give us lots of holidays, and I'm SO glad I did now! Mrs B
Gamebird
You have three georgous looking children and I love your dawg. Actually my Oliver (black Lab) would love your dog too
Lewis
Looks really good! It takes 3 of us to put the tent up
Snowy
You do have the same tent as me! A Vango Diablo - mine has three sleeping pods though (we often take grandchildren as well as our own). That's why I wondered how you'd managed - once we have the cross poles in, I go inside and hold them up so it is easy for OH to bend them and put them in the loops. Still not sure I would attempt it unless I knew I had someone at the other end to help!

Tina C
Respect to Mrs B! We have a Vango Diablo 600 (2 pods) and it takes two of us ages to get it up. No way would I want to do it on my own. Gorgeous children too.

MedusA
I have a Vango 500 which I have put up by myself, but it was a struggle. Yours sounds even bigger Mrs. B. Well done! We've only been camping once this year - to Snowdonia. The wind speed was 55mph at times. The campsite looks lovely. I love your pics. Looks like you all had a great time. chickencam
Glad you had a good time Mrs B. Great photos, looks like a good beach We chickened out on camping last week and booked a last minute caravan fot 3 nights in Devon instead. It tipped down on Thursday especially in the evening. Glad we did as DS had a flu bug the whole time we were there so would have been very miserable in a tent.
