Cinnamon
I have actually got Broadband, after trying for about 5 years Its via the Vodaphone network rather than the phone line,& is everso lovely & fast I can actually see all the photos you guys post now!!! One question. The connection doesn't come with any email address stuff,so I am guessing that when I drop Tesco.net,my email bit will go too? Can anyone recommend where else I might get an email address from ....someone mentioned Hotmail?
ubereglu
I would presume that your e-mail would go with your internet account, but I might be wrong. I'd recommend that you e-mail them and ask. For my e-mail accounts I use hotmail.com and yahoo.co.uk, hope that helps and WOW, that you actually got it!
Ain't Nobody Here
Congratulations . Enjoy all the photos . I have a Yahoo account (an old one I use when I don't really want to give out my "real" one). It's fine. Here, have a photo ...... . (Little Oscar who arrived yesterday!) Ms Marple
Hi i have never used the email that comes via my provider. I use either my work account (for work!) or hotmail. Have never had any problems with hotmail. I would suggest the same goes for yahoo.
chickencam
Wow what a relief. Broadband is a whole new world . We kept our old e-mail account going like ANH said for when we don't really want junk in our regular one.
ClaireG
Were on dail up and its such a pain. Some people where we are can get broadband and others can't, something to do with the phoneline we have. Will have a look at the vodaphone thing maybe we could get that to. I use yahoo for my email and have never had any problems with them. Cinnamon
Another question. Will I ba able to access my Hotmail account via Outlook Express?
ubereglu
I think you can as my Dad managed to hook up his account to his, but I'm not quite sure how!
Cinnamon
Hmmmmmmm - it seems I have a Hotmail acount,& I have guessed at what the email address is,but can't remeber the passowrd. Stupidly they direct the new password to the account - which I can't access because I can't remember the password Anyone know how I can get into it via Outlook - I have tried but its having none of it at the moment. AnnieP
I'm not sure that you can. Hotmail is web based, so doesn't "download" stuff onto your computer in the same way that Outlook does. Thus you can only work on it online, although you can always write stuff on word when offline, then go online and cut and paste into your hotmail message if being online is expensive. Congratulations on going Broadband! How speedy you will be!
Cinnamon
Thanks Annie, I just called tesco.net & they have changed me from Anytime to pay as you go,so I get to keep the emails I have & pay as & when I use dial up - which of course having BB now I won't need to do If anyone wants me,I will be over on Youtube

Omletina Kyckling
Hi, I have a hotmail account and I downloaded Windows Live Mail from the Hotmail site, which seems to be very like Outlook Express - I then use this to download emails from all my other accounts so I have about 4 email addresses within Live Mail - I find it to be very good and it's a standalone programme so you don't have to have internet explorer open to use it. I couldn't get hotmail to work within Outlook Express. You can set up a new hotmail account without any problems I think if you can't remember the other one?] Hope this helps... Cinnamon
Thanks both of you. I have downloaded the Windows live, which I like very much. It has also allowed to me export all my important messages,so next time I do a recovery on the 'puter I will be able to save all my important emails onto a disc. It looks nicer than Outlook too - great tip Diane, thanks
Geoid
Noo! Not Hotmail! GoogleMail is the best! you can use with outlook etc and there is NO spam. Hotmail is rubbish compared to GoogleMail. Wait, hotmail is just rubbish. Edited August 6, 2008 by Guest

Tessa the Duchess
I third Fred Gmail is great, Hotmail is rubbish. If your account with Hotmail is unused for 30 days, unlikely though it may be, then they close it and you lose ALL your stuff Tessa

Cate in NZ
Brilliant news Sarah I'm with googlemail too, had a hotmail account in the past but prefer gmail personally. It may be that you wouldn't lose emails with your old supplier even when you check networks . I'm only saying that because, bizarrely, I am still recieving emails on my old ntl (now virgin media) account, despite that having been linked to our old house in Dartford. The account was closed in mid April, and since then I've moved 13,000 miles away......yet I'm still getting all manner of junk email (and the odd gem) into that account. I can't send emails from that account though I'd love someone to explain how that works please.
Blackrocksrock
Googlemail here too and love it as its web based and you can check it anywhere at all. You do get spam and loads and loads of it but it goes to a seperate folder
Geoid
You do get spam and loads and loads of it but it goes to a seperate folder Yes, the SPAM folder, unlike other providers where the spam litters your inbox.
Cinnamon
I already have a Gmail account, which I had forgotten about Dopesn't matter now anyhow as its costing me nothing at all to keep Tesco.net One thing - Fred, maybe you can help on this one. Since getting the very wonderful Broadband,my Outlook Express will no longer send emails.Recieving is fine, just not sending - any ideas? Egluntyne
Have you got your incoming mail and out going mail servers configured properly. Open Outlook Expresss then go to Tools-->accounts-->Properties-->--Server Check your documentation and make sure your Incoming Mail and Outgoing Mail are configured to the correct addresses. ie mine is mail.btinternet.com. Also again check your documentation, go to Advanced and check that Outgoing Mail has the correct number. ie mine is 587 and not the default number. Good luck. Cinnamon
Yes,that was it. It stays with Tesco.net for incoming but had to change to Vodafone.net for outgoing, for some reason Mr Vodafone helpline man was very helpful
