Janty Posted August 10, 2008 Share Posted August 10, 2008 I don't do blood. I panic. About two hours ago I heard an almighty smash of glass. My lad and next door's eldest were playing in the garden. My first thought was the greenhouse. I shouted out to them but just heard a whimper. I knew the noise came from next door so I flew round to see my lad walking up the garden with his arm round next door's daughter and the two of them were covered in blood. We quickly established that my lad had only minor cuts so hubby took him home whilst the girl was hysterical so I stayed and held her, shielding her eyes whilst her dad checked her over. She is fine apart from some glass in her arm so they have taken her to hospital. Her poor Mum came home from swimming with their other daughter to find blood everywhere. Apparently they had had a water fight and then decided to get dried. They didn't want to drip water in the house so went into the greenhouse as it was warm. The girl fell. My lad tried to catch her and they both fell through the glass. They are so lucky. My lad gave us a laugh though. He is autistic and said to his Dad when having his wounds dressed, 'I've never been so close to death. I felt us falling and thought, 'We're going to die''. it made next door laugh as well. So pleased to hear they are both ok.. but bet your heart stopped there for a moment.. a very lucky escape and what a brave boy for trying to help her. Glad that everything is not as serious as you initially thought and hopefully when she comes home from hospital everything will be ok. I think that's where the wine would have worked instead of Nurofen! No more shenanigans from those two and how proud are you of your son? Lynn Posted August 11, 2008 Share Posted August 11, 2008 Glad all concerned are alright, it is a shock when it happens. This takes me back to when my brother and I were playing in the kitchen. I was around six and he was 10. He was swinging me around by my legs and of course we both got carried away and I ended up going through the glass in the kitchen door. However, my mum wasn't concerned that I had cuts and blood was everywhere. No, she gave me a good hiding and told me off for being so stupid!!!! I have replaced all our greenhouse panels with acryiic sheeting but next door hadn't. He has taken me up on my offer to cut a load for him once we get back to school (we have the ex-display perspex which is scratched in places but perfect for greenhouses). Next door took their daughter to A&E last night to have her arm looked at as we were convinced that she had glass in it. They waited over five hours and saw no-one. When they got talking to another lady who was there with her young son, she said that she had been waiting four hours before they arrived. In the end, they left without being seen and took her to the doctor this morning. She is a lot better in herself now. Poor girl was hysterical last night. I gave her snuggles and covered her eyes while her Dad looked at the wounds. She called round this morning to thank me and tell me about the hospital. Whilst they were at the hospital, their youngest daughter called at ours. I asked if she was ok and she said that she wasn't and burst into tears. I asked her if she wanted to come in and she said, 'Can I hug one of the chickens?' I cleared it with her Nanny and she happily wandered around the garden talking to the girls for a while.
