FruitandNutCake
I've only had my ex-batts a month, and I've just found Amelia in the coop - I'm guessing she didn't wake up this morning - but I didn't check them this morning before I went to work. I can't see anything obvious that could have caused her to suddenly die - but she was the one with the least feathers and wasn't brave enough to wander far from the run. She did go to bed early last night, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary. I just hope she didn't have anything contagious. At least she had a few weeks of freedom. kayandrob
Awww thats so sad, poor girlie, but like you say she did get a couple of weeks of freedom and I bet they were the best of her life xxxx
Egluntyne
What sad news. She had a month of freedom though....a little thought to console yourself with.
alexgirl73
so very sad But I bet she went peacefully, and a very happy lady.
FruitandNutCake
And she was starting to grow back her feathers too - fluffy little white ones! It's such a shame as I was more attached to the little baldy ones as they seem more vulnerable. But at least she has gone to chicken heaven free - and that makes all the difference. Guest
I'm very sorry. I too lost an ex-bat this week and I think about the happy times she had. The day she died she felt the wind in her feathers and the sun on her wings. She was lucky to have had her time with you - she has had a nice end to a sad life. Guest
ahhhh, poor little girl. Sounds like she went quickly and with her friends around her in peace and quiet, having experienced fresh air, sun, good food, kindness, dust bathing, wing stretching and all the lovely things she couldn't have done without you. xxx

mrsallen08
OOh how sad. Hope you are okay. At least Amelia was happy and free for her final days.
BeckyBoo
That's sad, but a better way to go than in battery hell. We lost a battery hen a while back that just keeled over with no warning, it's sometimes just too much for their tired little bodies, so I shouldn't worry too much about anything contagious. sparkysmum
Hello Michelle, Can only echo what others have said. It is so sad when a pet dies - they take up so much more of your emotions than you realise. Hugs. Allisonx

Lisa
I'm so sorry! I think you have done a very brave thing. I get my first chickens next Friday but wasn't brave enough to have ex batts for my first chickens. I want to gain some experience first and hopefully will then get more chickens next year when my confidence has grown ( I am hoping to persuade my OH to let me get a cube next summer. I was also worried that some seem to find it too much and only remain with their new owner for a short time - my neighbours are braver and are waiting for their three ex batts to arrive. I can't wait to visit and have offered to Chicken sit for them if they need me to. She must have had a lovely last month and her friends will miss her!
