hillfamily
Just need to get this rant off my chest I'm in the process of renting out my Dad's flat and for the past 3 weeks the ad has been in the paper (haven't found a suitable tenant - but 2 possibles lined up for viewings this weekend). Anyway, I get home from the school run to find a message on my answerphone from the company who manage the freehold, asking me to phone them, which I do. They've had a complaint about the advert from one of the residents as apparently I'm offering the use of a storage cupboard Before I have a chance to say anything, they proceed to read the riot act about placing storage cupboards in the car ports, how it is not acceptable and the sheds that were put onto the site last year for storage are not for any one resident's sole use. Trust me there have been endless letters, memos and meetings about this - how my dear father ever coped with the resident's association, i will never know When they finally finish, I explain that I haven't placed a storage cupboard in the carport nor am I offering the storage sheds but, if they would like to check their facts before speaking to me, they will know that there are 3 first floor flats on the site that have their own entrance and car port, each with their own built in storage cupboards that are accessed via the car port and are situated within the footprint of the flat and under the stairs At this point they go momentarily quiet, say they will get the plans and promptly put me on hold. When they return they immediately start with - I'm checking all the carports to see which ones the sheds were put in last year, you do know you aren't allowed........... I explain all over again - through gritted teeth - to be told they think that will be OK Too right it's OK mate - perhaps as agents for the freeholders, they should visit the site and learn the layout What really makes me mad is, as they phoned me at home (the advert only has my mobile number) they had to know which flat was being advertised for them to pull up my contact details. If they had taken the time to check the flat details before phoning me, they would have known about the storage cupboard. Well thank you all for putting up with my rant - I'm off for a cuppa and jam doughut :D Fingers crossed the next lot of viewings find me nice tenant otherwise I might have to phone back the migrant worker who wanted to know how many people could live in the flat - now that would give the residents something to complain about - edited for typo - Edited September 11, 2008 by Guest

ubereglu
That sounds tedious and annoying. Poor you. Hope you get it all sorted out soon and that you find someone nice to rent it.
hillfamily
A previous campaign by some of the residents involved the types and sizes of car owned by some of the residents Apparently a few of the residents drove vans (shame on them ) and some felt that, that was not sutiable. There was a question raised at the AGM about wether there should be restrictions placed on the size of a residents vehicle (that could be parked on the site) It was decided that this would be investigated further and a report submitted. In the end the idea was s"Ooops, word censored!"ped because they found that a van had the same dimensions as a Rolls Royce ........ and you wouldn't want to offend a RR driver I do find it very hard sometimes to keep a straight face at the AGMs

I don't think the residents would like either our family car or Claret's then! Nice Berlingos', not the van type, but the car type, just with extra windows and more seats! chickenlass
Good grief! How do some people dream up these things to complain about ! I have visions of them all sitting around a large table in the village hall like the commitee members in "The Vicar of Dibley talking a load of nonsense raising silly issues like this. You had better warn your new tenant that he had better not drive a van or they may well have him shot!
hillfamily
Perhaps I should sell the storyline to Richard Curtis I've had my cuppa and calmed down..........just didn't appreciate being spoken to as though I was a naughty child who had broken the rules and then received no apology when they realised there was no case to answer to

hillfamily
Do these people have nothing better to do? Sadly Lesley, it would appear not Last week I had a chap from a letting agency visit and coincidently, he and his wife used to live in the complex. Whilst we were talking about the few residents who have nothing better to do, he did confess that whilst living there, he had a pet goldfish called Boris whom he smuggled in under the cover of darkness as there is a strictly enforced 'no pet' rule in the leasehold T and Cs I did advise him that I may have to hold this piece of incriminating evidence against him when it came to negotiating a favourable rate should I decide I need to use an agent to find a suitable tenant
Omletina Kyckling
Oh don't!! I have all this to come again. The tenant has moved out of my house nr Huddersfield so we're off up there tomorrow to do some maintenance work and meet a letting agent who's probably going to take it on. I can't get over what they charge though, as they do so little. They've agreed a reduced rate of 10% + VAT of the rent (usually 15%), then they want £225 + VAT as a start up cost, then £50 + VAT to set up the bond, then they want £140 + VAT to do an inventory. I wonder what exactly does the 10% go towards? If they have to call somebody out to repair something, they will charge me 10% of whatever the cost of the repair is as an admin fee to get somebody in!! They all have different rates for different things but they all seem to add up to about the same. I'm fed up with the whole thing already! KimmyCustard
The residents sound like Margot Ledbetter from The Good Life, she was always going on about 'the avenue' and the class of people living there! Maybe change your name to Miss Mountshaft, that will give them something to chat about..... Kimmy x
