Strictly come dancing

I did say "since" - yes, I did find that entertaining

I think it's fine in the early stages and we all laugh at the resident 'Donkey' of the series......but as it approaches the later stages I think the balance of the programme changes and I appreciate watching how people who were mediocre in the beginning really start to blossom and learn to dance.

Only my personal take on it of course......I prefer to have fun in the early days and then to enjoy a dance programme towards the end.

If JS wants to be so entertaining then perhaps he'd be better off in that Hole In The Wall which Emma mentioned?

I was also shocked that JS is still in, but if he had gone this week then next week one of the good dancers would have to go, so I suppose it is just being brought forward. I just hope he doesn't make it to the final where the decision is all with the public...that really would be unfair on the good dancers.

Loved Erin's dress...I want it!

Although from the point of view of a dancing competition JS should be gone, from the entertainment point of view he should stay. Also he has trained just as hard as the other harder than several, the public are voting not the BBC therefore plenty of people must still like him.

It is a shame that Cherie went out but she's had a couple of poor weeks and finds the latin element difficult, so probably wouldn't have stayed much longer.

The standard this year is exceptional and the entertainment value has been great, the other dancers are now playing Russian Roulette with JS polularity but hey it all adds to the spice of the thing.

Rachel and Vincents dance was incredible, it was like a show dance by one of the proffesional couples  There is real chemistry between them I wouldn't like to be Flavia at the moment trying to smile through.

Did I blink and miss them or were Kristina and John missing from the group huddle at the end to say goodbye to Cherie?

The judges are getting really fed up with the John issue now as are some of the professional dancers. Perhaps Auntie Beeb won't put a character like him in the lineup next year. I would hate to be a professional and get landed with an older out of condition celebrity.

I have to say I'm missing Anton this year, he's had a really bad run of ladies recently, isn't it about time he had someone good? Or perhaps he could replace Brucie?

Oh well, I guess this is a risk you take with introducing a wild card to the fickle public.

We do like an underdog after all.

Perhaps the viewing figures were down after the last run?

Is it a dancing competition or a broader entertainment?

I don't agree. He can't resign. That is not in the spirit of the competition and it wouldn't be fair on his partner either who has her professional CV to think of. The public vote will turn as more good dancers go, but I wonder what tactic he will play this week to keep the public voting? Even if he suggests we don't vote for him, people may still do so. Still did I hear he has a jive next week? That would be very funny - although I thought it extremely rude of Bruce to laugh with such gusto at the idea!

I'm happy to just watch and see what happens next. :D

 I thought Flavia and Vincent had split up and just danced together? I'd love it if they were back together.

I was shocked that Cherie and lisa were in the bottom 2 but Lisa was better in the dance off.

I do feel a bit sorry for John, he's taken a lot of stick from the judges and it cant do your confidence any good getting negative comments from them and all this media hype :anxious:

After all it is only for charity :)

I'm a big fan of Strictly and have been watching this thread with interest for some time. I am amazed that so many people take it sooooooooo seriously.

It's worth remembering the bottom line here: This is a Saturday night prime time entertainment show and a ratings winner. That gives judges, dancers and celebrities the kind of exposure that most performers cannot dream of irregardless of talent. Everyone in it also gets paid - none of the profits go to Children in Need or any other charity this time (the Beeb aren't allowed anymore after the Blue Peter Cat debacle) - it's all done just for yours and my entertainment.

Therefore, no one, especially not the judges, are going to go off in a huff just because Mr Sargeant is still there. In additon, such terrific exposure also gives the likes of the odious Arlene and the irritating Bruno the chance to foister such duds on us as Britiannia High and the truly terrible Dance X. And let's not forget the host of autobiographies from most of the judges too.

If it was just about a dancing competition then Dance X would not have flopped so spectaculously and Come Dancing (the original) would command huge audiences and not have languished in the small hours of the morning before being (rightly in my opinion) axed some years ago.

Strictly Come Dancing is an entertainment show that happens to include dancing. I don't vote for him or anyone else for that matter but I love John Sargeant. I've seen him live and find him intelligent (far more than the judges, which is amusing in itself), lively and funny. It was very telling on It Takes Two tonight watching Odious Arlene and Craig try and justify their comments with copious amounts of arm waving and slagging off of the voting audience and then end the interview by saying he shouldn't leave because the rules are clear. Well yes Arlene my dear, the rules ARE clear - the public can vote for whoever they choose. Then to see Mr S himself come on and counter every one of their arguments with simple, pure logic. The man's good. He can't dance, but he's good and, above all he's entertaining in my opinion.

It's also worth remembering that this phenomenon of dud celebrity doing well is nothing new. Christopher Parker couldn't dance but went all the way to the final as did Julian Clary. Matt Dawson should not have been the final either on dancing talent alone but had recently triumphed in the rugby so made in on reputation.

I think everyone could do well to remember that actually whoever stays or go makes no difference to most people. "Ooops, word censored!"ody dies. It's entertainment. That's all.

PS, as we were out this Saturday and recorded it, I found a much better way of watching it. We simply fast forwarded through all the Bruce bits, all the jokes that didn't quite work, all the fluffed lines and it was much more enjoyable. Dud anyone?

I used to love Come Dancing. My friends all thought I was mad. They were right - I was/am.

The pompom dresses, the sequins all sewn on by the dancer's mothers, the stilletos, the primitive fake tan, the hair s"Ooops, word censored!"ed back into an early Pollard Face lift, the hair pieces and the yards and yards of taffeta. The Latin American formation teams comprising an assortment of 40 something switchboard operators, accounts clerks and greengrocers....I loved it all.

Bizarre but strangely addictive. :D

They broke up the last series when Flavia ran off with the young bloke from Eastenders she was dancing with

Oh I didn't know that  Who was it she ran off with? I didn't watch last series apart from the final.

So maybe he and Rachel weren't such good actors then

Flavia went off with Matt di Angelo. I think Vincent was determined to have a relationship with whoever his partner turned out to be! But I don't know what has happened since. Maybe Vincent and Flavia are back together?
