The Dogmother
Well, the mad pup has a nasty chest infection - the vet says that they are rampant at the moment She woke me up in the smal hours of Sunday with her coughing and choking. It was no better in the afternoon and she was very withdrawn so I took her to the emergency vet (had to hock one of my kidneys to pay the bill ) She's on anti-bs, anti-inflammatories and Benelyn for her cough. It's quite bad at night and she's snorting and sneezing too, not too bad this lunchtime, so hopefully it's on the mend.

Couperwife
oh no, poor baby would steam help? if maybe you put her in the bathroom (obviously with hot water running or in the bath) I hope she is feeling better soon piperkit sends snuggles (from the other room - cos thats a big doggie ) cathy x
The Dogmother
thank piperkit for the snuggles. I will try steam tonight if she's no better. Phil suggested putting in ear plugs so I couldn't hear her coughing at night, but it's like having a baby - I'd worry that she'd choke and I wouldn't hear it. Seagazer
Poor thing, I hope she feels better soon and that you get some sleep!
The Dogmother
She seemed more lively yesterday evening when we went for a walk, she is still wheezing and sneezing a bit, but the coughing and gagging is much better. I didn't hear her so much last night, but went down at about 3am to give her more Benylin for her cough and she settled down. Taking her tablets like a trooper though. Virus .... so Abs are supportive. Always lots about in the summer and responsible for Kennel Cough. Hope she gets better soonest
The Dogmother
Thanks, it does sound that way DA - she's got a lot of mucus which is making her choke and has that honking 'whooping cough' sound that you get with kennel cough. I use the Olbas Oil trick when Roise has a cold, so will try some on her crate tonight. The cough is much worse at night and I had to dose her with cough medicine again in the small hours. She seems better today though and I hope that she's pulling through - she's very strong, so it should clear quite quickly.
The Dogmother
Well, Ruby seems a lot perkier this morning and gagging/choking less. I dotted some Olbas Oil (thanks for the suggestion) on the blanket that covers her crate last night and that may have helped. Anyway, we both got some sleep. I am just relieved that it's a viral/bacterial thing rather than a foreign object lodged in her throat; being a lurcher, she's inclined to steal and scab stuff and I was worried that she'd got a splinter or summat caught in her trachea or oesophagus - that would have meant an operation to remove it
The Dogmother
We were hedgewitching at the weekend; Ruby helped by picking and eating her won blackberries This photo was a pure good luck shot as I just turned round as she ran through that opening. The Dogmother
You're right, I hadn't thought of that - it must be the way her ears flap up when she's chasing rabbits!
Couperwife
what an amazing picture its lovely when you have a real "kodak" moment (and a camera to hand) isnt it cathy x
The Dogmother
I took it on a walk up Crouch Hill - I was in a glade, squatted down to take a photo of the wild crab apples when Ruby zoomed past after bunnies. Here's the view from the trig point at the top... all just a mile from the house
Seagazer
Looks lovely - the photo of Ruby's ears flapping is brilliant.
The Dogmother
She has floppy saluki ears, but they flap up and down when she runs.
Chucky Mama
Oh she is pretty, is she soft to stroke or wirey?
The Dogmother
Fairly soft, definitely not wirey. She has a 'semi-rough' coat, so it's soft and sp"Ooops, word censored!", but clings onto mud like nothing else The thin coat and lack of body fat means that she gets cold in the winter, so she wears a daft knitted jumper She's all muscle and built like a racing snake
