[/color] Yep You might find that it doesn't look right with just the one wall, so you might have to keep going. That's what happened to me, but the whole lot done looks stunning and although it is darker it's a lovely colour whether spring, summer, autumn or winter. OH keeps telling me you lot are a bad influence! (he didn't like my aubergine wall in the hall and persuaded me to repaint it magnolia Not one of my better decisions - looks like a hospital corridor now ) Get my own back time! Perhaps you need something else added to bridge the gap between the two colours either with what goes on the other walls or some accessorising like large cushions for the sofa. The worst that can happen is you have to paint over it if you really hate it and chances are you'll create something fabulous you'll wish you'd done years ago I decided to paint a feature wall in my bedroom this summer and I really like it . It meant that I could use a much darker colour (in this instance Laura Ashley duckegg) on one wall, that I would not have been able to use all over (north-facing room). It gives the room just a bit of character without being overpowering. Entirely agree about putting testers on paper (did that myself), especially with red where shades are so different. Unless you have a very steady hand, or very straight walls, I'd suggest using masking tape round the edges to get a straight line between colours and avoid wonky bits. It won't be an exact replica of your room, but you can fiddle with the colours of the furniture in the picture to get a rough idea. A friend of mine is an artist and has a natural flare with bold colours. She has one wall red in her living room and it looks stunning. I wish I had the courage to paint things in brighter bolder colours but I always opt for neutral or pale shades, but I do try to have brighter/bolder accents (cushions etc) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

When we redecorated, we decided to paint all of the walls a nice, neutral colour and then have a 'feature' wall which was given a little splash of colour. I forgot to say, the only downside with red was how many coats it needed to get an even coverage. BERTIE MCSQUIRTY Posted October 6, 2008 Share Posted October 6, 2008 snowy have you considered making a statement with one wall papered?. there are some bold prints out there that are really warming and wont draw your room in too much. btw - have you ordered your sofa? its just i know a place locally (within 1 hours drive) where they do (amongst others) m&s Sofa's for less than half price......these are cancelled orders - never been out of the packaging.......they also have laura ashley - john lewis etc......and of course you can come and view mine if you wish (and see my new puppy!) going off now to find the photo of my mums extension where i painted the cream room roasted red..................will be back in a bit.. Olly Posted October 7, 2008 Share Posted October 7, 2008 it made me realise why people pay more for F-and-B paint, it's not just a name. It's completely matt so it just soaks up the light, quite different to most ordinary emulsions. I'd be too scared, but she is very brave with colour (and it's a huge room). Cate in NZ Posted October 8, 2008 Share Posted October 8, 2008 I've never been brave enough personally to go for a strong colour like red on any of my walls, I tend to think about it, mutter and plan, then wimp out at the last minute and go for a "safe" pastel shade. But I've been looking at houses recently since we're hoping to buy a new home soon, and I've seen loads with lovely, bright, strong colours, including lots of examples of red....and they all look great So, I'd say go for it too, as has already been said worst case scenario is that you hate it and have to paint over it again.....worth the risk I'd say Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
