little chickadee
Yes, I think we are officially mad. We're going away in a caravan for a couple of nights in the Half tem holidays. Not the most thrilling weather forecasts either Luckily we're not just on a campsite, its attatched to a farm park with adventure playground and indoor play area too. We also have electric hookup and a couple of little heaters to keep us warm along with our hot water bottles. Wish me luck! Tina C
Good luck - it'll be fine. I have been camping (in a tent not the camper) in October before - in the Lake District. Once you are snuggled in your sleeping bag its fine. We went away in April a couple of years ago and that WAS freezing - hats, socks, thermals (all of them) in bed and still a bit chilly. L and I are hoping to go away in the camper next week - would love to go to Southwold but I think we will go to a site with hook-ups.... Have fun! ..lay a little egg for me
Yes, we went to West Wales last October half-term. It was fab, did plenty of walking and saw baby seals on the beach...were able to go right up to them. The heater in the caravan works great, you can leave it on low all night if need be, but we got too hot! We have also been away at Christmas and in February. Never had any problem keeping warm. Have fun!
keyhole kate
Honestly you will be fine I have a caravan in North Norfolk and use it from March to Oct half term. I actually prefer it in Oct to the summer Just take good woolies boots and wellies for out and about. Have a smashing time
chelsea
yes you will be fine! We have been away in our caravan in December before on Dartmoor in 100mph winds and we are still here! My sister is going away to Cornwall next week for a week with her family in a caravan down at St Ives. I think its lovely in the caravan during Autumn/winter as they all have heating now and are really cosy. Have a lovely time.
Seagazer
I'm staying in a caravan next week in North Devon . First time I'm doing it down there as normally we stay in a lodge but we're taking Cookie this time so it has to be a caravan . We have a caravan down on the kent coast and we use it right up to when it closes for winter which is the middle of January! It reopens in March and we're usually straight back down there. The only trouble we had was when I took DD and YS down in early January and we blew the electrics. Boy the heat goes out of the caravan really quickly. You have never seen me pack up and leave so quickly. Enjoy yourselves.
freddie
ooh, where in n devon??? thats where we live!! we were away last weekend in our little caravan, and will be through 3 weekends in Nov/dec, and at least 2 in Jan... Kids and sport... all by the lake or the sea, due to the windsurfing. I love it, though it gets a bit steamed up sometimes!!
Egluntyne
It will be invigorating. The weather forecast doesn't look too iffy. Have a great time.

Normally my sister and her family but they can't come this year. My uncle and aunt live in Braunton so its an excuse that we need to go and visit them. They used to live in Combe Martin then Ilfracombe and now Braunton. My Nan used to live in Westward Ho!. I love it!! Not so much Westward actually because I nearly drowned there in a sea pool When I was a child we had a caravan in Berrynarbour, happy, happy days. Where abouts are you? Berkochicks
We have stayed in my parents static caravan on the beach is West Cumbria, at Christmas!!!! The caravan has a gas heater in the lounge area and we got it toasty warm. For safety at night we turned it off. It snowed during the night and in the morning we woke to discover our coats, frozen to the inside of the door. Think we drew straws as to who was going to get up and put the heater on in the morning. Ardene5
Yes and also in the depth of winter a few years ago. It is great when it snow as in that caravan I just reach from the bunk to put the gas fire on so it was warm when I got up. But did use propane and not butane as the propane gives a better flame for heating and cooking. Where ever you go have a nice break. ChrisP
I'm still camping in a tent! A caravan would be lovely Just bring an extra couple of layers to wear!
bigmommasally
We've oftened stayed in a caravan in the winter, my best tip would be to warm the beds up with a hairdryer just before you get in.

Janty
Hubby and I went on a walking holiday to Wales in December the first year we were together. To say it was cold was an understatement. Good fun though!
little chickadee
Well we're back, and we had a really lovely time. It was so great having so many facilities for the kids, as it was part of a bigger visitor attraction. My son spent a lot of time going in and out of the "Scary Dairy" which was a special thing they had done for half term. Lots of UV lighting and scary noises with vampires and zombies etc! I woke up shivering one of the nights but there was a sharp frost. I slept in my thermals the next night and was fine. Luckily we had electric hook up and a little electric heater so we were nice and toasty. The kids even went in the sea one of the days Brrrr. I was sitting on the beach in thermals, coat, scarf, gloves and a blanket I will definately go away again in October half term and I think we'll go away earlier in the season next year. It's good to make use of the caravan and so much fun with the kids.
Seagazer
Forget what I said about going away in October! We were absolutely freezing I have to say that we stayed in a different place to normal because we took our dog Cookie with us and they put us in the most awful, depressing, smelly caravan that had no central heating, only a gas fire and a couple of piddly little heaters in the bedrooms which did absolutely nothing. We all got dressed up to go to bed!!! I will be writing a letter of complaint tomorrow Its so nice to be home I have to say we had a great time in Devon despite the caravan.
