Yolky
I was just getting James from nursery and I spotted a wandering chicken...it was wandering down the main road. So I popped over and picked it up and asked the nursery for a box to pop her in whiie I looked for her owners. Most of the Mums from nursery had walked past her and left her...they said ohh yea I saw that chicken up the road. Poor thing, good job she didn't get run over. They kept saying to their kids, watch out the chicken might bite you! anyway we eventually woke up a sleeping man who had left his chooks to free range in the garden and one had got over the fence...it looked like she was just growing her feathers back after a moult so she might need her flight feathers clipping again or he might not find her next time. Anyway she was a lovely girl and it looked like he had a few other beauties in his garden too. Always good to see happy chickens.
Egluntyne
What an adventure. It is a pity you couldn't keep her.
Yolky
She was a lovely girl Egluntine. I would *love* 2 or 3 more girls and I think I have the room but my three girls get on sooooo well together, they are a happy mini flock that I am too scared to rock the boat, so to speak. Yolky
Can I also say what shocked me the most was everyone walking past leaving this poor chicken walking along the main road. What if she had got run over
dancing cloud
What a lucky little hen to run into you before someone ran into her . I'm so glad this had a happy ending. I'm still waiting for my ginger hen of fate too (got the spare eglu now so could introduce gradually etc) ...

The Dogmother
Good for you! Can I also say what shocked me the most was everyone walking past leaving this poor chicken walking along the main road. What if she had got run over We see quite a bit of wandering livestock around here, I once hopped out of the car while Phil followed to stop a dog, which was running down the middle of the A41 No-one else bothered to stop! Goosey Lucy
Hardly anyone here seems to worry about keeping their hens confined. I see several on the way home from school, I keep meaning to take a photo. While we were driving along a very quiet country lane last weekend we came across several flocks of hens, seemingly roaming wild. As soon as the car approached them the cockerals started crowing like billyoh and shepherded their ladies to safety in the verges and bushes. We also see several groups of guinea fowl. I had to google them to work out what they were I'd ever seen one with its clothes on as it were

Goosey Lucy
They are interesting looking birds, a bit ugly around the head which looks much too small for its body but their feathers are a lovely speckledy black and white. look here for a link to a webpage and picture
