My nana got burlged again on sat.

She let in someone from 'the waterboard' who said to her that a family down the road has a problem with their water and it was making their children ill. He came in and fiddled with the kitchen taps, then under the sink then said he needs to check her radiators in the living room and dining room. He was obviously the decoy while someone else rummaged around upstairs. Don't think anything was taken. After last time (Same scenario) she doesn't keep large amounts of cash in the house and they didn't take her jewelry box or anything of late grandads war effects. Luckily she's ok but she's just too trusting. She's getting dementia and becomes easily confused and forgetful. Thankfully she always locks the doors with loads of bolts and a chain but when someone 'official' tells her a story like that she doesn't understand that it could be a lie and lets them in. It was only after he said 'keep the taps running and I'll be back with a colleage' that she popped next door to mention her 'water problem'. Thankfully her neighbour raised the alarm, called the police and told her to go home and lock the doors and call my mum. SOCO came round to dust for prints and my parents waited a few hours for CID to turn up for a full statement (Could have left it to the next day but I doubt she'd remember it so clearly) VERY angry. Some people are so sick.:shameonu::(

Your poor Nan :( These conmen really make my blood boil, I don't think I could even find the words to describe how low, evil, heartless they are....:twisted: ....and I certainly couldn't write what I really think about them on a family forum. How dare people prey on the more vulnerable members of society...how do they sleep at night? Grrrrr :twisted:

I hope she doesn't get targeted again

Hopefully we'll manage to drum into her routine that she should always keep the chain on. That anyone from the council would always pre arrange an appointment by phone and any other services worker wouldn't mind if she checked for ID. In fact they encourage it. We've said to her (As the first lot of scumbags used a fake ID that she believed) that she should call her neighbour or us when there is someone wanting to come in at the door who hasn't made an appointment. If they are legitimate they won't mind. She has a great neighbour who has known her for years and is very patient (As it can be quite draining explaining things to Nana over and over again about the most simplest things). My mum and uncle went round the town looking for sheltered accommadation for her as they are getting quite worried but there were only two. One needed her to be a home owner (She's a council tenant) and the other; although it had a communal lounge is only used once a week for bingo and the rest of the time she'd be in a one room bed-sit type arrangement. It'd be safe but SO lonely.

I don't know how these people sleep at night I really don't

Thanks for your kind words, they help.

I don't know how these people sleep at night I really don't

Because they have no conscience and no decent upbringing from parents who are probably the same as them.

Makes my blood boil.

My mum is 83 and comes from Poland.

She remembers her childhood when there was "family" and everybody looked after eachother.

We live in such a disjointed care-less society these days.

Mum is too trusting as well but thankfully remains safe so far.

Hope your Nana is OK

That is awful, I hope your grandmother is ok and it doesn't worry her too much. My mum was in an awful state when she was burgaled, thankfully she wasn't in at the time.

I've heard of some people using children as well as decoys, seems like you can't trust anyone now.

I hope they catch them.

Your poor Nan Stoice, hope she's OK and not too upset. I love elderly people, theyre so funny and have such great stories to tell. :D

Could she not get one of those emergency button things that they can wear round their neck? Meant to be for if they fall and cant get up but can be used for situations such as what she has just been through? That way your neighbour or Mum can dash round and see whats going on. Any delays and these scuzz buckets usually run away, they're opportunists and dont count on alarms and neighbours appearing!

All to common unfortunately.........

I hate people like this - really where do they get off? how would they feel it was their grandparent?

My mum though something like this had happened to my grandad...some mam form a German company came around supposedly selling solar power panels. So my grandad had let them in let them have a look around and paid them some money upfront. When he told my mum the story she went into a total flap and even rang me at uni to complain!

Well when she went back a week later there was a sign for this company on my grandads gate...sooo she asked why it was there....grandad says 'well the man said they'd give me money off if he let them put the sign up'!

Then mum had coffee and went to wash her mug - came back saying 'ohh that water wasn't half hot right away, Norm (her friend) must have been to fix the problem'

Grandad then tells her that the solar power panels have been fitted and are up and running.

Again mum panics cos she's told that the one man (who done everything) was alone upstairs all the time he was fitting everything (about 12 hrs).

Turns out that the bloke had came to fit the solar power stuff, had done it all plus hoovered up and everything behind himself, as well as making my grandad multiple cups of coffee, sorting out the prob with his tv (he just noticed as he was walking through the living room and decided to fix it) and even brought my grandad some lunch when he went out to get his own!

I was in hysterics when mum told me at the end - she thinks my grandads got no sense but her knows better than the rest of us. He was chuckling sooo much when he told her that yes he did ring the number on the card and call my cousin to get him to check the company was real and check reviews on the internet lol before he handed over any money!!!

So now he has no gas bills, his house is lovely and warn and his water is always hot!!!

And mum goes red in the face whenever its mentioned lol!

xXx

Sorry for taking over the thread  just realised how long this is lol

That is horrid for your Grandmother, makes me really angry. They are such lowlife, pondscum, particularly weak and pathetic to be picking on people they know they can take advantage of - too gutless to do anything that might put them at risk :evil::evil:

I do hope she is ok, how upsetting for you too :(

It just never ends, at my hospital at the moment we have a 93 year old woman suffering from smoke inhalation as a group of "kids" lit her bin on fire out side her door. It got out of hand and she couldn't get out of the house, people had to break the double glazed windows to get her out!

Why do these people do these things? I just don't get it?
