....to see An Ideal Husband at the Lyceum.

Good cast.....and by that I mean I have heard of some of them. :D

Kate O'Mara, Tony Britten, Michael Praed and the bloke from Drop the Dead Donkey - Robert Summat.

Prepare yourselves for one of Him Indoors' witticisms. :?

H I......."Funny how Oscar Wilde thought to write plays about us, isn't it?"

Me...walking straight into his carefully prepared trap......."How do you mean?"

H I. ........" Well, he wrote An Ideal Husband and a Woman of No Importance" :?

He'll pay for that....literally...I'm going to Lakeland tomorrow. :D

have a great time :D

You lead a very cultured life up there in Sheffield Eglutine, you're always going to the theatre.

Hope its better than Ken Dodd. :D

Him Indoors had a significant birthday a while back and was given heaps of theatre tokens....the best present for him.

I hope it is better than Doddy too.

Oooh Michael Praed!!

I used to swoon over him in Robin of Sherwood!! :D

Me too lisa! He went rapidly downhill in "Die nasty" though, didn't he?

Strange, but both of my teenage "loves" (Michael Praed and David Gower) shared birthdays: April 1st!

Sorry to hijack your thread Egluntine.

Hope you have a good time! 8)

Annie....you must go and see it if it comes down your way.

Michael Praed has improved with age, something I wouldn't have imagined possible....he is drop dead gorgeous now, greying nicely, and looking divine in a Victorian frock coat.

Something funny happened at the beginning of the play, he came down a sweeping staircase...and fell down the last three steps. He couldn't deliver his opening lines for laughing. He carried it off well and the audience cheered.

Kate O'Mara was excellent, but looked like the bride of Wildenstein, botoxed and facelifted to an impossible degree. She delivered her lines very well, but without moving her lips.

Fenella Fielding was grotesque...... there is nothing quite so revolting as a woman who must be pushing 75 and still pretending to be 30, whilst playing an older woman.....she was bizarre.

Poor old Tony Britten. Absolutely crippled with arthritis and barely able to get round the stage. He forgot his lines and the prompter had nodded off I think so there was an embarrassingly long moment.

There was also a funny moment when Carol Royle went up the aforementioned staircase and her dress got caught on one of the steps.

The actors to the front of the stage didn't see what had happened and couldn't understand why the audience was laughing.

Robert Duncan was superb.

All in all an enjoyable evening, although the play is very dated and the views expressed don't stand up to close scrutiny by todays standards.

Many of Wilde's oft quoted witticisms were there.

Sounds like a fab evening.

I am a Wilde fan too.

I know what you mean about Kate O'Mara - she was a real beauty in her time and still could be if she gave in a bit and stopped trying too hard; her mouth seems stretched round to the back of her head. I see in the recent photo below that she still insists in getting her baps out... not a good look!

Glad you had a good time Egluntine! Sounds like it was fun

 at Kate O'Mara - what a shame! :? (off to google recent pics of Michael Praed  )

Edited to add: Gosh, I'd never have recognised him! Looks very different nowadays, not my type, but looks very dashing! (not a patch on the long haired Robin of Sherwood though :D )
