Charm Bracelets

Recommended Posts

Hi i was wondering if you could give me your thoughts on charm bracelets.

I have seen the thread on 'Troll Beads' that was posted a while ago.

I have done some research on the internet and have discovered:

Troll Beads

Pandora bracelets

Love Links

Thomas Sabo

Anyone got any thoughts on any of these, the first three seem to be similar apart from the prices whereas the Thomas Sarbo ones are more delicate.

It was for my sister as she had decided she wants one but now i've looked at some of them i'm tempted myself!

Thank you

Emma

I have recently bought a friend of mine a Pandora charm for the bracelet she had for her 40th Birthday :D they are lovely and cover quite a wide price range suitable for different occasions :D

My daughter has an old fashioned type bracelet like the one I have and she loves that too  I have recently found a chicken charm for her for Christmas :shh:

Good luck choosing :D

I have a Thomas Sabo charm bracelet - I'm afraid to say I have about 16 charms on it, which were quite expensive, but it's great because people always know what to get for you for Christmas or for your birthday - just another charm!! I have to say I love it - all my jewllery is white, so the sterling silver matches everything, and because you can take charms on and off, you can alter it for the seasons - right now, I've got a pumpkin charm on it, and I have an ice skate for christmas! It's a really nice weight too, and I always get compliments for it!

I saw these in a shop recently but then forgot what they were called and couldn't think how on earth to Google them.

I love glass jewellery. I had a Murano glass ring which my hubby got me all the way from Venice. Which I broke  I still have the pieces and am hoping I'll find some super duper glue to repair it.

I think I shall start getting some of these glass troll beads as they are beautiful!

I always wanted a charm bracelet but never saw anything chunky enough without being totally over the top and too blingy. My Mum-in-law then suggested that I have her Father's silver fob watch chains. I went to a good jewellers in Norwich and they converted one of them into a charm bracelet for me. Her Father went to sea so I had the remainder of the bracelet made into a little boat charm. The rest of the charms all have something to do with me...

a liver bird

a chicken

a camera

a saxophone

a shoe

rings

a cat

a pig

a heart

and a mini arch of constantine (honeymoon present)

I needed my bracelet to be a silver one as my wedding, engagement and eternity rings are all platinum.

I love those Troll Beads!

I have mentioned to my family that I would like them to buy me a silver charm each to make up a big bracelet that I would have as a keepsake for my next birthday. My intention was that they could choose a charm that they liked and meant something to them/me, and it wouldn't break the bank.

I have pointed them in the direction of Charmworks I have used Charmworks quite a few times myself.

After looking here, at the homepage of the company that makes troll beads I am wavering!

I think I'll go with the charmworks version and start my own troll collection when I am feeling a bit more flush!

:D Spooky - OH has just picked up some charms which have been taken off my traditional charm bracelet, and had clips put on them to wear on my Thomas Sabo.

I like the Sabo charms as you can easily swap them around, I usually have upto 3 on a necklace ( with a charm carrier ) and then 4 on my bracelet - just swap round to suit mood/occasion. I wanted some of my old charms adapted in this way, as it was cheaper than buying a Sabo equivalent, and also some you cannot get anyway :P

On a cheaper note we gave my daughter a charm bracelet from here http://www.925silvercharms.co.uk/ when she was born. (our budgets different a piece of complete jewellery for me would cost as much as a sabo charm)

We gave it to her with three charms with it. An N, a green (peridot) heart and we gave her the world. Then when she was christened we gave her a cross, when she came home we gave a family tree, her first birthday a lion etc etc. She has quite a few now aged two as shes had so many amazing moments in this first couple of years but the bracelets looking lovely. Each thing on its own isnt probably worth much but I've realised its adding up.

I love looking through the selections and thinking one day I might buy her that for pssing her exams, or her driving test or even getting married or having a baby.

I got the original idea from the story of 'a necklace of raindrops' which I think is one of the most beautiful childrens stories and has the most amazing illustrations.

What a lovely idea Bronze - so nice to have a gift with real thought, emotion and memories behind it.

My mum and dad bought me a charm bracelet when I was in my late teens but I only have two charms on it, a swan and a cat. I should really get some more or get some different ones to give to my daughter.

I'd never heard of these newer charm bracelets before and I must say I really like the look of them. This forum is so bad for my bank balance!

Bronze - I echo your sentiments, each and every charm on mine and my Mums bracelet has some sentimental reminder - my name and christening date, holiday charms, birthday charms etc.

The problem with these now is they are too heavy to wear as an everyday bracelet, so when OH got me a new bracelet and interchangeable charms, I then decided to "mark" a few of my fave charms to be modified for everyday use. 8)

I think there are in the region of 30 charms on each bracelet - so a pretty hefty weight of silver. I also have unique charms - but you cannot put a price on what they mean - my boys even love hearing about them :P .

Barbara - the T.Sabo rope necklaces and carriers are not too expensive, and a chunky style bracelet. If you have a good jewellers they can always put on the "clips" - mine cost to be removed and clipped £10 each if that makes sense. I am sure a clip being added "Sabo style" would only cost £5 max ontop of a charm cost - then you have more choice

Oh dear my bank balance lol

i have been looking at the troll beads, i thought ok i'd get myself a bracelet and then ask for beads BUT theres no catch on the bracelet so ok the bracelet is say £28 but the catches are about the same  is there a cheaper option?

Barbara, I was thinking the same and have come across this site Link It We're wondering about one for DD's 18th but won't be spending mega ££ as the 21st is still the biggy as far as we're concerned. I was wondering if the troll beads would fit the link it bracelet.
