I don't think anyone would want to pay for the lot that was dumped this afternoon - it really, really stinks

 

We were all out in the kitchen garden area - where the first loads were dumped - trying to harvest as much as we can before going to France for a week........the smell was really bad and had us all heaving. I stood in the gap when we heard the tractor and gave him a smile and a wave....he kept driving to the top of the field

 

I don't mind the smell of animal dung but this is something else!

Some livery yards pay to have their muck heap taken away - those that take it away are often unscrupulous about where they dump it. Maybe that is why it's near the entrance - a quick getaway

Someone is out and about this morning - it woke me at 4.30 This time it's in the field on the other side of us and I can hear a tipper truck clunking as it empties, every 5 minutes - so can Jazz so she's been barking

 

It's still too dark to see what is going on but no doubt it will smell nice out there once we venture out

It really smells out there today. I wasn't too happy because I have a horrible sore throat and I really didn't want to be up at 4.30 Hopefully, it will all soon be ploughed in

It seems to be universal Lesley - they'd obviously been spraying with slurry on the fields around Banbury too.

Fortunately, this isn't slurry and does appear to have some straw in........still smells more than our pigs, cows or sheep poo though.

if so, while it won't make it smell any sweeter, at least you'll know it's not personal, bad feelings about neighbours can really suck the joy out of life.

This is our fifth year

 

It is an annual thing in the field they were dumping in yesterday - but it's not anywhere near the boundary and our house is not on that side either. The earlier heaps were deposited very obviously next to the house and the area we have as garden and not paddocks for the animals. That boundary hedge is very close to the house.

 

They have an 11 acre field with no other houses anywhere near so it is just very odd that they dumped the heaps just there, they are just feet away from the trampoline - a very visible, large, trampoline.

 

We'd rather have muck heaps than neighbours though

I think it's ..........it could make it worse of course

 

At least it's a cold and frosty day! They are loading up muck spreaders - I wonder how much notice they'll take of the public footpath in between us and the muck heaps?! It's just the other side of the hedge, on their side......they've conveniently ignored it so far. They may yet splatter the footpath and our side with muck......we'll have lovely fruit and veggies next year!

 

When they were taking a load of hay out last year one of the tractor drivers accidentally took out the post with the public footpath sign on it - it's still flattened on the ground.

It is now spread all over the field and anything that saves chemicals being sprayed all over is fine by me.

 

I went out to feed the cats just as the last strip was sprayed, not only is the footpath well and truly covered but the muck was propelled two metres through the hedge onto our side The compost heap will do well as well as all the other stuff . It went so high in the air that it went over the roofs of the outbuildings and a large stone just missed one of the cats as I was putting their food in the bowl - I'm glad i was bent over and out of the way:shock: One of the outbuildings was open at the back but we filled that in this summer otherwise the stock trailer would be covered as well.

 

I took these out of the upstairs velux this morning - hence the window being in the way......

...and today they came along and cut the other side of the hedge and showered the whole driveway - I was on my way to an outbuilding and had to take cover - and just down the drive the postman was walking up and he also had to run to the barn to miss it all I'm glad we hadn't let the dogs out to play on the lawn

 

We've got plenty of work to do without having to pick up all the splintered wood

 

Oh! the joys of living on a smallholding! Would it be too much to ask for a courtesy knock on the door to make sure dogs are safe etc. ?
