Its that time of the year again! - appliance breakdown

Recommended Posts

Yes, the most wonderful time of the year  (I think we were discussing this last year that strangely enough all our appliances seem to give up just before Christmas).

This afternoon I've discovered my tumble drier has broken :wall:

Checked the receipt and it was purchased 09 Dec 07 after the last one went kaput.

Anyone else who would like to join the breakdown list??!!

Gosh Fred I can't imagine anything worse at this time of year :( The shower heater in my son's flat died last week and yesterday the drains at a flat which I rent out got blocked up, it cost me £350 to get a 24hour emergency plumber out :evil: Of course all this happend when DH is abroad, I'm just waiting for the next disaster, they always seem to come in threes.

Dishwasher conked out last week. Have just had replacemant delivered and it doesn't fit!!! :wall::wall:

I know how you feel - ours fitted.....and it was all plumbed in and ready to go.....then we realised that we couldn't open the oven door  . The new dishwasher doesn't go back as far as the old one.....we had to cut the door handle on the oven to make sure it didn't gouge a hole in the dishwasher ddor

I have just been told off for having a shower in case our boiler dies in the night! If it did die, ten we would be left with no heating too Fred! It sucks!

Our Kitchen is quite old and they have obviously changed the depth of built in appliances since I last had to buy any...it looks a blooming mess and my legs are killing me for spending about an hour on my hands and knees in the cupboard trying to make more room for the pipe work>

My cooker died a couple of weeks ago (a couple of weeks after I had spent all day cleaning it!)

The hob is still working but I am running out of things that don't need baking or roasting! :|

I really hope that the replacement arrives before Christmas and that my mate can come and sort out the fitting

We're also having boiler problems.

On Thursday it sounded like a bag of spanners in a tumble dryer

All was well after it had been switched off and cooled down a bit. Then at 4.00 on Saturday morning the noise started again......had to rush downstairs to switch it off again before we upset the neighbours.

Emergency gas engineer attended on Saturday afternoon and said that as the boiler was 12 years old we had 2 choices, power flushing the system (£600 ish), or a new combi-boiler (but he didn't give us a quote for that).

Another local heating engineer calling tonight to give us a quote for power flushing and his installation prices. Whichever way it looks as if we're going to have an expensive Christmas.

Had to leave the house without heat again this morning so I'm hoping that the frost doesn't hang around too much longer.....thank goodness for aran jumbers.

Regards

Christine

I've had a very bad day. My cylinder head gasket has gone on the car and I've been quoted from £550 to £700 to repair it. The car is 11 years old and only worth £300 (although worth thousands to me). I haven't got the money to repair it never mind buy a new one. What a cr*p day

oh dear Jue, isnt it weird how all these objects seem to have an idea that Christmas is coming, we dont have much money and they decide to breakdown?!

Hope you get it sorted x

Thanks hun. Just had a bit of a cry about it. Think it's the time of year  I wish I could do without a car altogether but I need to get to Dad everyday to check he's ok and take him for appointments etc so it's just not an option.

Have you got your dryer sorted? I bet you were relieved it was just inside the guarantee.

xx

having to wait till OH gets home to find out when the engineer is coming....can make do for now with borrowing sister's drier.

im not surprised you had a cry about it, sometimes things just get on top of us dont they, one thing after another......I think its a good idea just to shrug our shoulders and put it down to life in general (which is what im trying to do! ) otherwise I would go bonkers!

hope its fixed soon.

Our van s heater fan has packed up. Doesnt bother my hubby or the dogs but I hate being frozen. Trouble is we use the van so much and it always takes longer than they say originally in the garage. You cant take ten dogs in a courtesy car........I can only get a couple in my car so would have to do 5 trips to walk them all in the fields...... My tumble dryer sounds like it is drying spanners as well does that mean it is on the way out as well? Oh well cest la vie. It is always 3 things going wqong at once in this house though... as long as all the furries and feathered friends are ok and us humans as well, i dont care. Sue xx

Hope you get your drier fixed soon. Flipping pain especially when the weather is so dreadful for trying to get washing dry.
