magamamma
I have recently felt with my partner that we would love to have another baby. We have a girl who is 4 soon and a boy who is nearly 2. Only problem is i cant drive . Sounds silly but for school runs it will be quite a prospect. I love children and i have been very lucky with my 2 as they are good but is it silly to think of having another. I dont really know what i want to hear really . Typical woman! Maybe a good argument or even a bad one. help if you can?? maggie
Egluntyne
Why not learn to drive then your dilemma will be over?
Ain't Nobody Here
I agree, learn to drive . Just think how useful that would be anyway . You sound like you've made up your mind already .
bronze
Use me as your inspiration. I don't drive and am pregnant with number
Guest
presumably you don't have a car (or a 2nd car) that you could use if you had lesson? Lessons cost money and so do cars so I presume you don't want to go down that road if you're thinking of having a third child? could you ask the school and see if they have one of those walking bus schemes or failing that, there will probably be parents near you who would give your kids a lift? I'm sure you'll work it all out nearer the time

Aunty e
Or get a family bike, so that you can pop the kids in that and cycle them to school. I would love one of these - http://www.bakfiets.nl/eng/models.php

I would love one of these - http://www.bakfiets.nl/eng/models.php I think they're great for places like centerparcs but, IMO, there are far too many nutters on the roads, I wouldn't risk it personally. It's a shame really.
Tina C
I do drive but generally I choose not to. I only have one child but have always had 2 to walk to school and now have 4 some days. Its good for them! They arrive at school having had a bit of fresh air and exercise and are ready to learn. You only need to drive if you choose to send your little ones to a school outside your catchment area. For me, walking distance was one of the top criteria in choosing a school. (Luckily our catchment school is lovely) You've managed so far and your two are used to walking (or seeing you walk) and number three will be the same. Go for it! (Great idea about the bike aunty e)
Snowy
A good friend of mine has 6 children (1 lot of twins) and has never driven. Don't let it put you off.
Olly
My mum never learned to drive - and she had five of us! Seriously, learning to drive would solve the problem, but if you're managing with two so far, why be put off? You'll have to take the oldest one to school anyway, whether by car or on foot - and if you don't drive, you're probably used to walking a lot anyway. Follow your heart - you know what you want to do.
chickenanne
I don't ahve any kids, so could be missing the point, but: do you really really want another one, or not so much? I know the practicalities are vital, but is the school-run the real reason why you're hesitating? It's just that I'd imagine that it would be easy enough to find a workaround for that, or learn to drive. Apologies if I'm being insensitive or whatever. Valkyrie
Driving itself is easy - the hard part is imagining that most other drivers may be a lunatic and how to anticipate what they will do for your own safety and that of your children. Other than that you have to watch out for padestrians that step into the road without looking - or look the other way and then get the shock of their lives when they see me sitting patiently waiting for them - having been waiting before they stepped off the pavement because I knew they weren't going to look. Also some cyclists that think they are immortal. In my many years of safe driving I have had: One lady who smashed into the back of me when I had stopped at a T junction and there were other cars coming. One lady who smacked into the side of me when she came out of a turning. One man who wrote off my car when he lost control of his going round a bend and hitting me head-on. Last year a man hit me while I was on a roundabout because he "didn't see" me. This year a young lad wrote yet another car off when I had just gone past him and he tried to get out of his road in between me and the lady behind me (spun and tipped upside down - great if you are in Alton Towers, not so in your own car). Is it worth it? Are you happy as you are? I am terribly fat (although local trips require Shanks's Pony - it would be too lazy to drive) - you will be so much fitter! Although having been without a car several times, sometimes by choice and other times inflicted by idiot drivers, I feel trapped without one - I feel a sense of freedom even by it sitting on the driveway. By the way, I hope I haven't offended anyone - I didn't mean to if I have.
Ain't Nobody Here
When I had kids aged 2 and 4 I also thought it would be nice to have a third. We got a dog instead . Best thing we ever did!
