Put on a pan with a bit of oil in to fry some onions. Popped onto the laptop to check out the forum. Smoke alarm went off - assumed it was the roast beef (top oven was a bit smokey) so wafted it with a magazine. Went back to laptop. Alarm went off again. Glanced through kitchen door to see (big) flames leaping out of said pan  . Quick action, wet tea towel over pan, all's well.

Did I get those smoke alarms I said I would after that fire safety thread? Nope, forgot. Just as well the only one we do have is working :? .

Crumbs, ANH! the laptop could have been seriously burnt!

we had a hob top fire during my birthday party - OH left teatowels and a pile of boxed quiches on the hob - 2 guests looking for a light before proceeding to the garden lit the burners, not realising they'd left one burning under the teatowels

luckily, eldest daughter is experienced in the ways of firefighting (3 kitchen fires so far none of them her fault) and by the time I got to the kitchen she had it all in hand

Ooops! Glad all's well. my OH managed to leave a deep-fat fryer switched on overnight once.... fortunately the temperature sensor thingy worked well, and it didn't go on fire.

I know of someone else who would prefer to remain nameless  who put a cigarette end in kitchen bin, which wasn't completely extinguished. Came downstairs for a glass of water after going to bed about 20 minutes earlier, to find bin very much alight! kitchen full of smoke, fire handily restricted to 9plastic) kitchen bin. Picked up bin with heatproof glove used for stove, chucked it into back garden, melted plastic all over kitcehn floor....

OH not happy at all.

Did this little episode prompt "the Nameless One" to become a non-smoker?!
