blackgold
I bought some mealworms today from Morrisons,,£3 51 for a tub..... I soaked some in a little warm water as they were dried and went out to see what my girls thought of them. All the exbatts looked at me as if i was trying to poison them and where are our grapes.... Then Bam Bam the faverolle mooched over and was taking them by the beakful, the others then changed their minds and started to eat them too. Think she is their food tester lol ps when you say porridge oats do you mean the ones for making human morniing cereal or the one for horses? pps I tried them on banana as well, Bam Bam isnt too keen so it was left...... Redwing
Thats cheap for mealworms, well done Blackgold! I love the taste tester chicken idea! It must be fun watching the ex batts try new things, bless em We just get the cheapo human porridge oats, the basic/value type ranges normally have cheap ones with no added salt/sugar etc.. You could feed horse oats too though - I guess the rolled type would be best but then the come in massive sacks
chocchick
Mine got a net for catching them and a new run cover. Think they would have preferred your gorgeous looking pudding. blackgold
Thing is with my exbatts and food tasting, they didnt need Bam Bam to try worms, slugs and woodlouse that they found in the garden........ I am not sure if i fancy eating their eggs now with all the stuff i watched going down their throats while free ranging......

Tiggy
I stayed with SIL & family at christmas she has 4 recently acquired hens, 2 youngsters & 2 ex bats, the older girls have no probs tucking into just about anything the young girls are more cautious, I don't suppose they will be as spoiled as Redwings girls
