The Good Life continued....

I think our recyclers must dread doing ours as it is always full. Although I don't feel that guilty as most people don't put anything out at all

 So I am actually keeping them in work :)

Dear Lesley and Carl

Just to say THANK YOU SO MUCH for a great day on Saturday.

The weather may not have been fab - but the company was and it was lovely if slightly envy making  to see your farm.

Paul and I came to a momentus decision as a result of visiting you. We WONT be moving - we just cant afford what we want and we realise that we dont want second best - we want what you have - so hand it over or I will send the Minkster round................

It was great to see so many omleteers again (even if some thought that the picture of Jonnie was me  )

and good that people know (& Paul) REALLY does exist

Thanks again for a wonderful day :D

Oh Help!!!!! - we'd better start running............... well, hobbling in my case

Did you notice my hobbling has got better? My physio noticed last week - I hadn't been for 5 weeks. I always knew this rough land would be kill or cure - and was hoping for the latter

We didn't think Jonnie was you, Mel. It was the girl in the picture with the hat on, presumably his sister. I went back and had another look after we knew the answers and I still think she looked like you!

Mind you, Sheila is a better judge than I am! I told her I thought it was really, really obvious who that little girl was and she just looked totally BLANK and couldn't see any resemblance to anyone at all! Of course she was right - the little girl wasn't there and no-one (except maybe Jonnie  ) knows her!:lol:

You just can't beat a shirt and matching tie set!

I really wanted to dress my boys in shirt and tie sets like that for a recent wedding (the bride would have absolutely wet herself, had we done it, as she had met her groom at a Seventies night), but chookiehubbie wouldn't let me - meanie!

I thought the girl in the photo was Mel as well Ginette

You lot have made me laugh - just what I need this morning. The pigs have gone off to the abattoir this morning.

Last night we had to sort out the pig slapper, which tattoos a number on the pigs. We ordered it a couple of weeks ago - it arrived yesterday morning  They'd sent the wrong number  - we had to use it and write the wrong number on the movement licence. I don't suppose anyone will notice one digit is wrong!

Matthew came to load the pigs into the horse trailer at 8pm - they went in without a problem. Then all of a sudden, it was gone 9 pm and we hadn't eaten. Neither of us could face eating properly so Carl had an omelette and I had chocolate and plums :?

We had to be ready for 6.30 this morning and we were at the abattoir by 7am. A friend who took his first pigs last week had a problem getting his pigs out of the trailer so we were a bit wary, but they came straight out. It took 5 minutes to get the trailer in and the pigs out, then they went straight off to be slaughtered. We didn't attend that bit but came home feeling very sad but also pleased that the pigs had a happy life and a very swift, stress-free end. The manager said they probably weigh more than we thought they did, we will know next Tuesday. We thought they were around 80kg live weight.

We met up with the manager last week and discussed our butchery requirements and we will collect the pork next Tuesday.

It's all just another part of the learning curve I guess although seeing Carl on Saturday and talking about the pigs, he really was going to be sad to see it through.

Some find it hard to understand but they will now fulfill their purpose - what you got them for in the first place.

I suppose it will be a lot easier when you have done this a few times, you've got all these thoughts of your first pigs that you do get attached to (they were very sweet!) and not going through the process before

I for one am very proud of and all you have acheived at the farm and if you ever fancy giving it up I'll happiy take on Mel for it!

Keep smiling both!

:D

I thought that too. This first time must be the hardest. I guess you'll get used to it after a while. . . maybe :?

When do the new piglets arrive? :)

6 months is such a short time but as you say they have had a really nice life. Best just think of all that lovely meat! (I'm drooling just thinking about it)! :mrgreen:8)

Me too Dan :D

Andrew - don't be daft, your pink stilettoes would look daft on the farm

Lesley - let me know how it goes. I hope that you get everything back - I have heard of abbatoirs not returning all the bits and pieces  I shall miss those piggies, but it's all part of the circle of life. You've got some moving around to do now with the other piggies - let us know if you need a hand.

PS, I see in P P mag that there's a Stratford poultry show in October, can't remember the date though :?
