The Good Life continued....

Recommended Posts

Tuesday for the rain according to our local weather forecast..... but another glorious day tomorrow first 8) I'm busily trying to come up with excuses not to go to work tomorrow considering that it might be the last hot day.... but it's no good, I don't feel even the remotest bit sick, no matter how hard I try to convince myself otherwise :oops::oops:

I'd love pigs...... the family wouldn't  I think I could coerce hubby, Imy would like a cow...... but Seb threatens to live home if I bring any more animals into the garden. Well, he's nearly 15, so another 3 years then and he can either go or tolerate a menagerie

In the meantime I'll keep reading this thread and going :mrgreen: at all Lesley's photos and stories :D

My son was desperate for us to get a cow :lol::lol:

Today we have to unwrap the freezers and make sure they are ready for tomorrow - we collect all the pork tomorrow morning. Lauren and Jake will be having 'Malone chops' for their dinner - we will be waiting until Wednesday (wedding anniversary) for a big, roast pork dinner, all our own veg and homemade crab apple jelly.

Now I'm dribbling

That sounds lovely Lesley, save me some crackling

Mel; no, you haven't got room for piggies. But I reckon that Paul might be convinced.

yup crackling for me too Lesley!

Course I can convince him - he reckons if we cut down all the trees other than the ones with tps and grass the lot we might even have room for donkeys

We had a massive overhead thunderstorm last evening, just as we were about to go and unpack the freezers and test the electrics. We lost all electrics anyway for quite a while and so the freezer is still not unpacked - we're just doing it now :? - fingers crossed :?

Good luck with it Lesley. The storm arrived here early this morning. I don't think we had a power cut though.

This is exciting stuff - the long saga of the freezers and will they be ready in time for all that pork?

I'll be very interested to know just how much space it takes up in those freezers, as I have no idea of the actual quantity of meat those gorgeous pigs will have produced.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! :D

Oh! ******** - the freezers have blown the electrics

That just about sums up yesterday :?

We unpacked the freezers (I know, I know - we should have done it days ago  )........ sorted out the trip switch for the outbuildings, plugged in the freezers, lights came on on the freezers, we went off to collect the pork.

7 BIG BOXES of it  - we drove up to the house and took it into the kitchen because we wanted to weigh everything and look at how many chops etc. - more like HOW MANY??? chops

We had been told that everything would be labelled etc. - what we didn't realise was that everything would be so neatly packed - complete with polystyrene tray and cling wrapped  Environmentally friendly? hmmmm  We then added our own freezer bags

We decided we couldn't wait until Wednesday evening to taste it so I popped two chops into the oven along with a couple of cooking apples we'd picked on our way back up the drive. We carried on packing and weighing the meat - nearly finished - when along came the 3 small sheds we'd ordered for the dinners/turkeys  Two cups of tea and a chat later we left them to erect the sheds and continued weighing the meat. We just wanted 15 mins to savour our first pork. We managed 5 minutes - but they were the best 5 minutes ever :D:D:D

We repacked all the meat into the boxes and drove it down to the outbuilding.

NO LIGHTS!!!!! WARM FREEZERS!!!!:twisted: - no electrics

We piled all the meat into one freezer as it was at least cool - and panicked quietly.

We decided that it wasn't worth persevering with the electrics - they need doing properly sooooooooooooooo.......................

............. daughter and SIL had to come and help us move both (VERY BIG) freezers into the dining room :? - one at each end - just in time for THE visit from Carl's family on Saturday

Never mind - anyone got any large table cloths???

Oh no what a pain but at least the meat is in the freezers and you have some new tables in the living room.....:lol:

I bet those chops tasted great...... If you need a spare freezer mine is empty at the moment so don't hesitate in sending some pork over.......:lol::lol: I will look after it for you honest.......

Oh no! What a disaster! I am really sorry. You must feel completely thwarted. :(

I guess you'll have to get the electrics properly sorted out and know that one day your dream will be a reality. Until then, freezers in the dining room  And just as you want everything to be perfect for Saturday too! Never mind - table cloths and gorgeous flowers should do the trick - and it'll make a great chapter in your book!

Have a lovely day today! Happy Anniversary! :D
