The Good Life continued....

Recommended Posts

A blog would be good Lesley, but I like this, I certainly don't see it as taking up forum space, I think that just about all of us eagerly await each new instalment. I love the organic feel of the thread, with all the comments and chatter (even when it goes ever so slightly off topic  ; it adds to the humour and the fun of the thread, and we do somehow manage to get back on track pretty quickly)

A blog would be a great way of preserving the events as a piece of personal history (inspiration for the book that you and Carl really must sit down and write in a couple of years... if you ever get the chance to sit down and write), and of course it's accessible to all, friends and family and so on who aren't registered with the forum, so you can share it with a much larger audience. But because blogs, in my admittedly limited experience, are a lot less user friendly in terms of posting comments and responses it's likely to become a lot more succinct and less, kind of friendly :?

But there won't be any unscheduled mentions of football

Whatever, please don't ever stop updating on the events down at the farm :D:D

the last bacon i ate before becoming veggie was from Marks and Spencer - circa 1980 - it tasted of fish  That is what tipped the scales for me. The pigs had so obviously been fed fish meal and I decided to not eat meat or fish again.

I bought some stuff from the Jimmys farm site & the bacon was wonderful :P

So was th shoulder of Pork we had for supper yesterday - the best pork I have ever had (in fact we all loved it so much we may have it for Christmas Dinner) :P

I like the fact it is here too Karen - but isnt it scarey when you have missed a couple of days on the forum and there are loads of pages on the Good Life :lol:

Usually football :roll::wink:

Well, that's another Bank Holiday gone and we haven't sat down yet! We actually went to bed at 9.45 last night  Unheard of for us to go before midnight  It was a blessing really as I consequently didn't hear the news last night and didn't know about the bombs in Turkey until my daughter phoned at 8.30 this morning to tell me they are all OK :? They are 20 mins away.

The rabbits now have a run again - we pinched their Eglu and run and gave it to the Burford Brown and her chicks and bought a rabbit hutch for them. They were going crazy in the hutch.

We also have the base ready for the shed to be delivered tomorrow, and new sand baths for all the layers.

We were both on our way in to have a shower but Carl decided to take a look at the stream and he's decided he can hack a way through. I might never see him again  He's also found some more apples while he was over there.

We've made a new gateway into the small 'orchard' and Carl has strimmed the ground so we can reach all the plums more easily. So far, we've had cherries and now the plums. There is a damson tree in the hedge and we picked those on Saturday. We will be moving our own small fruit trees to the small orchard at the end of fruiting - we put new pear trees in just last summer

We have been buying fruit trees from the Farmers' Market and now have a stock of bigger trees (ones that will grow bigger) and they will be going at the far end of the field next to the wild flower meadow we have sown. The bees will go up there - next year.

I'm glad you like reading this - and we will be writing a book - one day! Carl's been waiting to have enough time to write a book that is in his head, about the English Civil War - so far he's been waiting 14 years or more

:P Hi Lesley ... long time no post  . Just wanted to add my extreme CONGRATS on everything you have done ... still soooo  , but very impressed by every choice in livestock, and everything else to date. ( Not that you need my approval :!: ).

Have been reading the progress and very pleased that even the cats and dogs have blended in so effortlessly. .

My very best wishes to you, Carl and family.

Thanks SarahJo - nice to see you :D . I bet you had some reading to catch up on :?

The hemlock was over 7' tall but it has died back now which made it easier :? Carl used a replica Viking Broadsword to hack it all down and then used the strimmer. He found an apple tree in there
