jlo
Just wondered how everyone was feeling on the first day of this bright new year?? We hosted a murder mystery party last night for eleven of us. It was a bit of a hoot and for any facebook friends you will see some dodgy pictures on my page. It was set in 1942 Casablanca which would explain why OH is dressed as a nazi!! I was also driving people home so did not drink at all. I was very pleased about that this morning. ;-> [this is supposed to be a smug smiley but can't do it!! that'll teach me We now have the house cleaned and I have done my usual January 1st thing of taking all the decorations down. I just like to be all decluttered for the new year. Have also changed my avatar from its Christmassy theme but have lost Penfold Anyway - hope there are not too many sore heads and have a great 2009 everyone. Mrs Webmuppet
I sadly still wasn't feeling too good after the V&D bug so I only had a very small glass of wine and was tucked up in bed by 11pm. Not that I got to sleep there where too many parties going on ( and I wasn't invited to any ) When the fireworks went off at midnight I thought I was in a war zone! I had to lend my broom to the neighbours to clear all the party poppers and burst balloons up from the pavement this morning.

Seagazer
Mmm... had a bit of a sore head this morning, just had wine and then champagne at 12 o'clock. We had a quiet evening in but my daughter and her boyfriend stayed in as well so we played games and watched Elton/hootenanny/fireworks. Also watched Chocolat, really must read the book. Lovely evening.
Snowy
About 15 of us got together at a friends for a house party. Great fun! Played pass the parcel and charades! Only a moderate amount of vino consumed and I was in bed by 2am. Good job as the boys decided to come bouncing into the bedroom at 6am This morning we got wrapped up warm and went for a walk to visit the new allotment! Ain't Nobody Here
Didn't have a headache this morning despite drinking a fair bit and going to bed at 2am . Have one now though, after an afternoon building Ikea furniture and trying to fix various PC problems (for myself and the boys ). I thought the point of having an ES doing a Higher in Computing was to save me doing all the PC stuff round here .
poachedegg
I didn't have a drink as I am full of a cold and DS (17, 18 in May) spent his 1st New Years eve in a pub, so I didn't drink just incase he couldn't get a taxi etc. As he was staying over at his friends, I asked him to text me when he got back there so I knew he was ok (this was after lecturing him about staying safe, not getting involved with anything, advising him of lots of drunk idiots etc, etc!). Went to bed about 1.30, knew his 'do' was finishing at 2am, so checked my phone at 3am.....no text, so gave him the benefit of the doubt, checked again at 5.30, still no text, so then had to get up whilst I texted him and he text me back to say he was at Tom's 'trying to sleep!!!!'.......then the alarm went off at 8am to let the chickens out!! So I am shattered today and I didn't even have a drink........I thought once they got more independent it was supposed to get easier! I think its actually harder for us parents when they are independent as they are out of our control and we worry more about what they are doing. My ES went to a party and was staying over so this was fine. Two of his friends walked home and one got attacked and was badly beaten. He's ok today, been in bed apparently but I despair at what is going on. This is why we worry.

Seagazer
Thank you. I think my son is a bit shocked that it happened. He had lent this boy his jacket to wear home as he was staying over. I wish he was little again so that he couldn't go out. I wouldn't mind but his friends are all nice lads, most have girlfriends (my son does and spends most of the time with her now) so they are not gangs of youths hanging about the street. After what happened earlier in the year I just worry all the time.

poachedegg
Glad they are both ok - my son is the same, no girlfriend yet, but has a nice group of friends (boys and girls), who are not 'street hangers' or big drinkers....so we are obviously doing something right! I use to be a mega worrier when my 2 girls were out and about, and ED was particulary bad at letting me know where she was! There was one memorable night when I drove round the streets looking for ED at 4am as she wasn't answering her mobile and her friends were all safe at their own homes and thought she had gone home too! Turned out that she was asleep on her best friends sofa under a big pile of cushions and no one knew she was there! I think I have gained a wrinkle and a grey hair every weekend for the last 6 years! This year's new year eve was briiliant as both daughters (24 & 22 ) came with DH and I to the O2 to see Elton. Once the show was over we went for drinks and a little dancing in one of the bars in the O2, it was such a lovely night and completely worry free! Olly
No sore head here, I don't know if it's advancing age or what, but I can't drink any more - a couple of drinks and I either get indigestion or a headache or both. The good side of that is that I woke up feeling marvellous this morning! Just as well as there was quite a lot of washing-up to do. Went to stay at a friend's in Norfolk, we have done this every New Year for the past few years so there were 15 of us in the house. Last night we played made-up TV Games (Family Fortunes, 'Have I Got A Buzzcocks Question for You', and Strict Comely Dancing!) The 'Buzzcocks' game included photos of people in the group, with just their mouth or eyes showing and we had to guess who, and some video clips my friend had taken through the year with a 'What happened next' question. The dancing was brilliant - four couples did a tango, more or less, while the three children in the party were the judges and two other friends were Bruce and Tess. Oh, and there were a couple of 'turns', my friend and her two children sang a song, we did Pass the Parcel made by me, including forfeits, and we had a buffet supper with a dish provided by everyone. We had a great evening! I went to bed at 2.00 am feeling like a real lightweight, the others were up till 3.30 apparently I just can't do that any more. Poached Egg, your son probably couldn't get a text through - it's often difficult to send one on New Year's Eve cos so many people are trying to send new Year wishes. Clur
We had my brother and sis-in-law, and our best mates over for NYE. Thought my mate and I would be drinking cups of tea come 11pm as in other years...but nooo, we kept on breaking out the wine and got to bed just before 4am. The kids were up at 8am, and our living room and dining room - housing the respective couple - resembled a field-hospital...groaning bodies everywhere!!!! The bacon butties I made sent my friend over the edge and I had a text at 6pm that evening saying she was only just then able to keep some dried toast again. Considering neither of us have drunk to excess in about 6 years, it was a brutal reminder of why we don't
Aunty e
Harrumph. Some of us can't drink at the moment, so got to watch all of our friends get drunk and a really really drunk (not very attractive) girl try to make a pass at our husband. And I still felt rubbish in the morning.

clootie
How very unattractive and most uncomfortable for your husband. Poor him and poor you for having to witness it.
Aunty e
She'd already been hit with the Ugly Drunk Stick. I think she's probably a nice-looking girl when she's not trolleyed. The thing is, after OH quite nicely explained that his wife was sat opposite him, she then got pretty abusive. Didn't spoil our evening, but it was a bit of a shock. We decided to leave around the time she started falling over and throwing her drinks everywhere. I imagine she couldn't even remember what she did in the morning. sigh.
