Greenpeace airplot

Recommended Posts

Sometimes I think Greenpeace are an enemy unto themselves, but this seems to be a small campaign of genius:

They've bought land where the Heathrow expansion is going to be, and are divvying it up between thousands, which means the government has to buy it back off thousands if it wants it. Seems rather clever, as well as very funny! Nimbyness at its best!

It's great isn't it, if you go to the website you can sign up to be a plot owner too! It doesn't cost anything, they will just add your name to the deeds, I've done it, stuff the bloomin government and BA, how can you justify demolishing a WHOLE VILLAGE, school, pub, shops, PEOPLES HOMES for goodness sakes! It's not as though the airport isn't big enough or busy enough as it is. Farnborough is my other rant, I'm on the flight path which wasn't a problem until about 2 years ago, all we had was a free air display every two years, now we're getting passenger jets at 500 feet soming in to land, never mind the business lear jets every day. Were we consulted? No, we were not as we are in another county.

Feeling VERY ancarchic today!

They will just pave over it. It won't stop them, the third runway is going to happen. :(

I'm not sure I agree with you Fred, there will be a change of govt quite soon, it could make all the difference. There is tremendous opposition to the runway, all the 'experts' advising the govt voted NO to a new runway, the govt decided to ignore them and go ahead

 I doubt it will happen in our lifetime. Just my opinion.

The legal costs buying it back off you is going to cost the public a lot of money. I'm sure its all a waste of time just delaying things.

Unfortunately, I think this is true. Who do you think will be footing the legal bills - us lot - the tax payers.

Its a nice idea but the only people who will benefit are the lawyers in legal bills.

People are wedded to air travel. I can't see this changing (like car travel). I think the only way farward is to research and develop less environmentally bad planes and cars.

sorry, Hazel, I have to disagree...

* in this recession people are not going to be travelling much - even CEOs of international companies are cutting back (and they're the ones who would jump on a plane at the drop of a hat)

* with all the claims about global warming do we really need a third runway?

* if you're worried about tax payers' money being wasted take a look at how the government wastes money (small fortunes spent on furnishing/decorating/carpeting offices while 'coal face' workers are having their budgets reduced year by year)

* this is a whole village we're talking about - what happens when some overpaid idiot decides that your home/village/town has to go to make way for some scheme we don't need?

We're going to have to agree to disagree.

The recession won't last for ever - Time will tell

Lets see if there are more or less flights this time next year.

2 wrongs don't make a right.

Aviation only accounts for 4% of greenhouse gasses - there are bigger sources to tackle

I've joined up - thank you for posting the link.

Did anyone see the BA owner on Question Time last night?

Yes I did. At least it was him and not the owner of Ryan Air who is such a slime ball and always makes me want to throw things at my tv  He said that at the moment aviation accounted for 6% of emissions in the UK, a couple of people pointed out that if this new runway and terminal goes ahead, by 2050 total emissions could be 50% I have no idea if this is true, but I really do think the govt. has to start taking global warming really seriously. I would much prefer to live in a country which is leading the world with it's green credentials rather than in one that had the biggest international airport.

I work for an airline and we definitely havent seen a decline in bookings, If anything since Christmas we have been manic!

Broad spectrum of business & pleasure, a lot of people still choosing to fly short-haul within the domestic UK rather than get a train/by car.

I think with more people staying at home on holiday this year the Uk prices will go up :( I paid over £800 for 2 weeks in a S/C holiday cottage in Scotland last year - you could quite easily go abroad for cheaper.....hence the cheap package bargains.
