CannyCat
I went downstairs at about 3am last night (our bathroom is downstairs) and spotted a huge and very ugly slug in the middle of the kitchen floor. It was so ugly I didnt want to pick it up (I did actually think it was cat poo until its little eyes poked out and it started to move quite worrying since we dont have a cat). I put a bowl over it so that my OH could dispose of it in the morning. So this morning tom walzes into the kitchen and picks up the bowl....... to find the slug had escaped, leaving a large pile of sticky goo under the bowl! And I thought to myself - if we had chickens, this would never have happened!
Guest
Actually, we have our Eglu next to the kitchen door, and despite that we still get stonking great big slugs through the cat-flap every night. Have done, every night since we moved into the house, 7 years ago. We used to leave a glass of beer right under the catflap, but now we go and collect any that are out and about before we go to bed and put them in a tupperware box, and feed them to the chooks the next day. I hate the slippery little blighters!

I put bowls over spiders - if im brave enough to get that close - in truth i usually throw the bowl in its direction and hope it covers it, my OH then has to de-spiderise in the morning! How on earth did the slug escape?? A slimey escapologist - mind you are there any of a different kind
Louise
I don't know how slugs get through my cat flap as I often have huge great things in the utility room in the morning and the flap is a magnetised one Maybe the cats let them in
Guest
My cat flaps is magnetised too - I can just picture Tigger standing with it open, letting all the slugs in!

Guest
I find that the giants get shared about ( ) so your bantams may well enjoy the odd big slug!

Chicken on a mission
We don't get anything in our back garden, wonder why Mind you out the front (north facing and heavily planted so I don't have to weed) we get loads of snails The noise you get from standing on one of those is quite disgusting and I always feel so guilty

CannyCat
I'm so glad its just me! It's the first time I've ever seen a slug in a house! No idea how it got out from the bowl, but there was slime all over one side of it - maybe it managed to lift it up...? [/i]

Chicken on a mission
My mum spent months trying to find out where all the snails were that were prodcing snail trails in her front room. She grew her own potted xmas tree and bought the little blighters in from the garden on the pot without realising
swindon_clucker
I've never had slugs coming through the catflap but my newest cat Murphy when he was a kitten used to eat worms sometimes along wit spiders he ate a moth last night
Charlottechicken
Several years ago my dad found a strange black hard object on the living room carpet, looked like a piece of chewed liquorice. We all handled it and no-one knew what it was . He then noticed large amounts of slug trail on the carpet and we can only assume poor little slug ran out of slime trying to find it's way back outside

Cate in NZ
Urghhhh Canny Cat. I'm afraid I'm not particularly interested in how he got out out from under the bowl, nor how he got into the house in the first place........ the most pressing question (in my opinion ) is where the heck is he now He's obviously determined and strong, with amazing escapologist tendencies........ and he's in your house. NOW He could be under your bed, behind the bath....... even under your pillow. You must get those hens soon, if only to save you from the tyranny of marauding slugs with criminal tendencies
