Benjamin Button

Recommended Posts

I have just been to see 'The Curious case of Benjamin Button' & wanted to report back how brilliant it is 8)

Its a loooooooooooong movie - 3 hours in all, but I was armed with a Starbucks, & piece of cake & a snuggly rug (why are cinemas always so cold?), & the time flew by.

Beautiful movie, really well shot, just heartbreakingly sad & incredible acting all round.

The make up is just astonishing, not only the ageing, which is remarkable in itself, but the way they made Brad Pitt look 20 years younger than he is now - back to his 'Thelma & Louse' glory days. Truly a breathtaking achievement

I had almost forgotten just how fine he is 8)

Go & see it.If you loved 'Forrest Gump' then you won't be disappointed.

With this & Slumdog in the past month, its looking like a bumper year for must see movies!

Cool! I really want to see that but the showings were quite early and I couldn't make one of them. I read a book called The Confessions of Max Tivoli recently which had a similar premise but different plot. That was a novel and the story of Benjamin Button was based on an F Scott Fitzgerald short story which I can't seem to track down. The film looks luscious. I can't wait to see it.

I saw Doubt instead:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0918927/

which despite its heavy premise is an incredibly intelligent film about power, authority and the mental sparring between Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman. There is nothing graphic in it at all, it's mainly conversations but it's amazing. Fantastic performances. It's sort of in the vein of There Will Be Blood in that the majority of what is 'said' is said in the silences and the expressions of the characters. Very engrossing.

And then there's The Reader and Revolutionary Road (there's a great book!) and Slumdog and then in May, Coraline, which I really can't wait for either. That too is another 'button' film. If you don't know anything about it, there is a fantastic interactive website with lots to play with:

Very magical and whimsical and exciting!

We saw Benjamin Button last night (Orange Weds  ) and I've never cried so much in a cinema , it was quite embarassing!

I wasn't really looking forward to it as I thought I'd get fidgety during such a long film but the time flew by. (a sign of a good film).

It reminded me of Forrest Gump too and I thought the make up was amazing too. When Cate Blanchett was 'old' I didn't believe it was her at first it was so realistic.

Recommend it to everyone but take some tissues!

(Cinnamon do you actually take a blanket? I always take an extra jumper to snuggle into as I didn't think they'd let me in with a blanket!)

PS. Also saw Slumdog the week before and loved that too despite not fancying it either (my friend always picks the films!)

I most certainly did

I don't pay £7 to be freezing for 3 hours,you know.

I hid it in my handbag.

I could really do with one of those Slanket things 8):roll:

3 hours??? crumbs - I wanted to see it too but I think in this case I might wait for the DVD - then I won;t have the embarrassment of having to squeeze past people when I suddenly get desperate for a wee which always happens in long films :roll::oops:

I've got the slumdog millionaire book sat on my shelf, waiting to be started. The thing is I rarely want to watch a film after I've read a book because the 'visuals' I have in my head never match up to the film I and I end up being bitterly disappointed. I wonder how I would get on the other way around? Film first, then book?
