Lesley
....for want of a better word! Does anyone else start with the tree pollens? - every year I start in February or March. Mine started all of a sudden yesterday - went for a walk.....and spent the rest of the afternoon and evening in a bad way I've had allergic rhinitis for years and have been taking anti-histamines year round for a long time. I try most years to give them up but go back to them. Last October I managed to get off the anti-histamines and have been fine once I'd got past the first couple of weeks. I'm trying homepathic remedies - again.......
Patricia W
My son is exactly the same, Lesley. He's now 35 and each year it started as soon as the tree pollen was around, and then continueed through the summer. His only respite was in the depth of winter. He really suffered so I do feel for you. He moved to Australia 4 years ago and says it's better although not gone completely- not sure why as there are probably more trees with pollen out there - maybe a different type of pollen? Old Speckled Hen
Have you tried the desensitising injections that were withdrawn but are now back in favour again? Then isn't there a pill called grazax that you dissolve under the tongue? I think these are for grass allergies though. I don't really suffer unless I get a huge challenge such as walking through a mature hayfield. I have to really sympathise with people who get itchy at the drop of a pollen grain. It must be awful
Seagazer
Hmm my boys have been sneezing a lot recently so I think perhaps it could be tree pollen for them although the youngest one had a basic test done and it was just grass pollen that was high. Saying that though he comes up in hives at the drop of a hat He had an operation on his nose a couple of years ago and some cranial osteopathy work around his nose and he's nowhere near as bad as he was. I used to pick him up from school and he'd come out with a wet tissue over his swollen eyelids and that was with antihistamines. I'm going to try local honey this year as well. Mutrix Farmers
It can't be hayfever season already surely? Note to self - buy OH some Beconase when next in Boots. Years ago my Dad had accupuncture to relieve his hayfever. He also had to cut out certain foodstuffs. It seemed to work until he started eating the wrong foods again!! Valkyrie
Commiserations Lesley, I used to start up in February too and go on into October. Sorting out the rabbit was sheer misery because of the dust from the hay. But I think that my immune system has been starting to kick in over the last couple of years because I don't suffer as much as in the past. Took 40 blooming years to work though! I still get the odd days and I use Flixonaise (which seems to work better than Beconaise with me) topped up with New Era tablets. I have been such a guinea pig for the docs over the years, even been a pin cushion, but nothing ever seemed to work. My start up time was at 4am and seemed to ease off at about midday and comes back at around 6 in the evening - something it still does on the days that I am in for it. I am usually worse still when it rains. The doc reckoned it was tree pollen and there are a lot of catkins out at the moment. He said that lime trees seemed to be my worst problem. Guess what tree is in our next door neighbours garden? Yep a ruddy great big lime tree and it gets pollen all over the cars, but again I don't seem to react as much as when we first moved here. However when the farm over the back grows oil seed rape I get the worst snuffles of all, depending on the direction of the wind. When I went for the testing, it only showed a reaction to grass. I wonder if the late season is to do with fungal spores? I know if I go walking in the woods my nose goes bonkers and more so when the stinging nettles are in flower. My mum said her nose was playing up the other day - so was mine (not badly though), yep, hayfever time has started.
Geoid
This is the one thing I hate about summer, pollen. Just one tiny bit makes my eczema(sp?) flare up, so im all ictchy and bleeding and sore and my eyes water non stop. Thankfully priton stops it. Helly Welly
Last year i got a laser thingy from Lloyds pharmacy which you put up your nosr for 2-3 minutes. I think it helped although i didn't suffer too badly last year anyway. Found it http://www.lloydspharmacy.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=1008&storeId=90&productId=5383&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=18354&top=&top_category=18352&fromPage=&hotspot_prefix=ELECTRICALS I got the ionising air purifier at the same time as well as it was on offer. Charlottechicken
Thanks for posting this Lesley, I just realised why I've been sneezy for the last couple of weeks, with itchy eyes It takes me by surprise every year
Lesley
I remember reading about the nostril thingy.....I'll have another look at it. I'm still using Beconase and taking the New Era combination. I have some of our own honey left and have some of that every morning. The dog has a pollen allergy as well so we make a good pair walking round the farm - but I don't roll on the floor rubbing my nose on the grass! Lesley
Oh dear! what have i started! I had to move a flowering Jasmine houseplant last night. It burst into flower on Saturday afternoon - and I love the fragrance - but I think it probably isn't helping
