Guest
It's a good feeling isn't it I am so glad we don't have to go through that again Yes it is. Although DS has 2 sisters at the school and I could feel fairly certain he would get a place, until I actually had the letter, i couldn't be sure. So yes, a very good and relieved feeling. He's my last too. I've done 4 lots of first, junior and secondary school applications now. But it feels a bit sad too. It's very hard to see your family growing up and moving on, especially when it gets to the last one going through the last hurdles.

It is quite sad Ginette I have been thinking since Christmas of all the 'lasts' like the last Christmas play I will see and the last Christmas party and can I make that sweatshirt last until the end of the Summer term I suppose I will have a few 'firsts' to look forward to now though, although not too sure I will look forward to all of them
The Dogmother
I had the email yesterday, Rosie didn't get the school recommended to her by her teacher, but they are going to appeal and think that with her 'gifted and talented' award, she'll stand a good chance. Egluntyne
Oh....bad luck Claret. Fingers crossed that the appeal is successful. Congratulations to all those who got what they were hoping for.
Guest
Good luck with the appeal Clare I heard on the radio, 1 in 5 children did not get their preferred choice
The Dogmother
Thanks Guys, the school has had 5 children go to appeal before and they all got what they wanted, so we'll see. It's not a total disaster if she ends up at the local secondary school, just not he best one for her; she'd still do well.
bluekarin
I'm glad we have a years reprive before we have to go through thtis again. I can't believe it was this time last year I found out my ED had passed her 11+ and got a the prefered place at the grammar school Still makes me so happy even now. DS will be doing the 11+ this Nov so all nails will be down to the quick again. And then its the turn of YD. I spent the last year of ED thinking this is the last play, assembly etc etc. The leavers service I was a mess and only had one rubbish bit of loo roll Good luck to you all! And well done to those that have got their chosen places

Lewis
Congratulations to everyone and good luck with the appeal Claret. I can remember getting my results and how nervous we all were, and 6 years down the line I'm so glad I got in. Its exciting and sad at the same time to leave your old school behind. Seagazer
We were trying to find out via the internet this morning before YS went to school as we had applied online. Darn thing kept crashing. OH phoned me and told me just after I'd left him cycling into school. When he came out this afternoon and the first thing he asked was had he got in. I said yes and he punched the air and shouted out 'yay'. Funnily enough I had texted DD and ES to tell them. DD said 'yay congratulations to him, thats really good news'. Text from ES 'k x' he's a boy of very few words...... Good luck with the appeal Claret and anyone else who has to go down that route. Sunshine
My sister(Zoe) didn't get into her first choice of school so is going to the feeder school (same school my other sister(Isabel) started at last year) We appealed for Isabel last year but it didn't work out. However my Isabel loves the school she is at now and i think it was the best thing for her and it was the school all her friends went too. Zoe has said she doesn't want to appeal and the odds are great anyway, plus as Isabel has settled in so well at the high school it seems silly not to send them to the same one. It will be strange for Zoe though as all her friends are going to different secondary schools(we have 4 main comprehensives and they are all going to different ones), so only 2 girls that she is friendly with are going to the same school as her. Although when i started secondary school i lost touch with my friends from primary school and made new ones. The Gifted and Talented programme seems to have really taken off-Isabel seems to get them for every subject so is off to Hadrians Wall in a few weeks and has been into school on Saturdays to do stuff for it. Zoe is off to a high school in a few weeks for a gifted and talented thing too. Good luck to families going through the appeal process. Happy chickens!
Good luck, really hope you've all got what your children wanted - we went through the appeals process last year, followed by ombudsman - not fun!! Anyway, if you do have to go down that route, I can really recommend this site: http://www.elevenplusexams.co.uk/forum/11plus/index.php All run by volunteers who give great advice and the forum members are friendly too! Although it is mainly 11 plus advice, they will help anyone and a lot of the appeals against oversupscription are the same whether for grammar or state. Hopefully none of you will need it though, touch wood.

carrie
My son sat the 11+ for our local grammar but hasn't got in. We will have to wait now to see if hehas a place on the waiting list. We are so gutted as we feel it is the right school for him. He will now go to the same school as my daughter but all his friends are going to the grammar. Janty
Good luck with the appeal Claret. We applied for a school place for our son even though we want to keep him where he is (his school fees have gone up and Suffolk rotten CC are closing Middle Schools so we were worried about hubby losing his job). Luckily we got the school of our choice even though we are out of catchment. However, things are looking brighter now on the job front and we might not have to take up the place. His school really looks after him and his class sizes range from 12 to 17 pupils. I'm sure that with his autism, he wouldn't do so well in normal sized classes. [/color] I've been through it with my two....and now I'm on to grandchildren Lauren narrowly failed the 11+ to go to the Grammar I went to, but is on the reserve list - other than that, we have no choice because of all the new builds around Stratford. Lauren has a place at the school that they are allowed to nominate.............she is as happy as Larry.......because the chief class bully - and bane of Lauren's life from Reception - is moving to America Lauren is having a good last year at school as she now has a different teacher after three years with the same one. The new teacher took the bullying problem head on and sorted out the other girl by sitting with both her and Lauren, at the same desk, for all lessons A very good day for Lauren
