chickencam
Hoping for the best for your brother today. I understand your torn feelings about family members with different needs. My parents live 130 miles away and have both been ill in recent years. We have done what we can, but our first priority is to the children and each other. There is no perfect answer to this. Sending you positive thoughts you will do the best that you can and that is all that you can do.
miss-hennypenny
I don't know what else I can say that's any different to all the other kind messages- just that you and your brother have my best wishes and are in my thoughts. Good luck.

Cyber Chook
I think a lot of people can relate to what you're saying about so many things happening in your family. The same thing happened a few years ago in our family, with deaths, mental and physical illness, and mass emigration. I think it's a normal part of living, isn't it, maybe we just reach a stage where these things start to happen. But you do start to feel, oh my goodness, what next, and how much more can we cope with? Then slowly things do settle down again. On a hopeful note, bowel problems are often very treatable, and I sincerely hope this is the case with your brother. My grandmother had a bowel obstruction and we were terrified. After surgery at aged 82 she recovered really well and was completely cured. Sending all good wishes and strength Caroline

chooklady
I have just spoken to my brother and at the moment he is still waiting for his scan, so no news yet I'm afraid. All being well we will visit him tomorrow afternoon. I'll let you all know if there are any further developments today a bit later. Thankyou all once again Nicola x
Tiggy
if he had an acute severe obstruction I would have thought they would have in in theatre by now, lets hope that no neews is good news thinking of you
Ana's flock
Any news from your brother yet? I hope they'll be good ones and that he recovers really quickly. It's difficult when your loved ones are poorly and far away. All my family (apart from hubby and offspring) are in Spain and it's worrying when I hear any of them is poorly as it's not as if I can jump on a plain at the drop of a hat and leave my children and menagerie behind... Take care and keep the spirits up. As someone else here in the forum said, if it was something nasty they'd have acted with more urgency. The fact they're still testing means they won't be suspecting something bad... fingers crossed for you and big hug. Ana
Ain't Nobody Here
Fingers crossed for you . Let's hope their lack of urgency is a good sign .
chooklady
Hi everyone, My brother went down for surgery this morning at 10am, as yet he is not back in the ward!! They did say it would take 5 hours, but it's now 8 hours. I can't stand it They are removing a large section of his small intestine and he is going to have a colostomy bag!! Providing he's up to it my Mum and I will go and see him tomorrow.
Olly
Gosh, that sounds like a big op. Fingers crossed, bet you and your mum will be relieved when you see him. Colostomies are often reversible, maybe this is just while the problem is sorted out - hope this has cured the problem, anyway. Let us know how he is when you've seen him. BeckyBoo
Just read your update, really really hope he's back on the ward soon. My father in law had what sounds like the same op 18 months ago, as did a guy at work, my FIL is 75 and recovered in about 6 weeks from the surgery, guy at work is only 50 something and was even quicker. In fact my FIL had his reversed in December so it can be done. Everything is still crossed for good news for you all BeckyBoo
chooklady
He's OK, I insisted that they found out for me, my Mum is nearly 86 and has heart problems and she is getting really anxious, so I piled it on a bit!
