Guest
Before I totally lose it with James. We had a week and a half - I was off work sick for 2 days and he was off school sick (for the first time EVER!) as he had a poo problem and the Doc had prescribed him laxitives. So I felt like poo and had a LOT of it to deal with. By today we are back on an even keel - just us though cos Mum has gone on holiday (thank goodness - she was so tense she drove us bananas this week). So this morning - we did the breakfast, lunch preparation and were sitting outside his school by 8.30 waiting for the gates to open at 8.35 when I need to be taking my register at 8.45. We made it - only 5 mins late too. I had a morning and a half - basically yesterday some of the little darlings trashed one of the ICT suites and with it the network so all day it's been a gamble what would work and if it would work for longer than 5 mins. During this chaos I was supposed to be teaching a few bottom sets for ICT. NOTHING worked and if I'd had a video they would have been watching it. Roll on lunchtime when I had to dash out to the car and go and pick James up because his school was closing at 2pm - so there went my 35 min lunch break. Cue the last lesson - 6 year old "helper", rowdy year 10's and a computer system that could pretty much be relied upon to crash - certainly no internet, no printers, no registers etc etc. I got through that. Came home and mowed the lawn for some relaxation. Risked life and limb putting pills into Mums cat. Put James school coat in the washing machine as note from cleaner said she had seen Mums cat wee on coat (she has cystitis). Feed James and take him in hot tub for wind down with a glass of Chardonnay. Get out and get my tea. Now we have a rule - I will sit though endless hours of cbeebies drivel but when I eat we get MY programme on. so 25 mins of Neighbors. James playing. THEN he came in with my sewing - a lovely Blackwork cockral that I've been working on HE'S CUT THE FABRIC ROUND THE HOOP!!!! So there isn't room to finish the design. I shouted, he cried - I sent him to his room. He is back now and we talked it over - I asked what he was doing - he wanted to do some sewing. I asked if he thought I wouldn't let him - he said No, he thought I would help him. I never found out why he thought that cutting my fabric was a good idea. Still rather mad - that was looking nice. Of course I'm not sure I have the will to start over - no it can't be salvaged - I'd done most of the tail and there isn't any material now for the body. GRRRRRR.... Looney
Oh Pengy Poor you! Have another (large) glass of wine and put your sewing out of sight until another day. Did James feel bad for what he had done? Hope your evening gets better x

Minnie the Moocher
Poor you. He was trying something new, and it went wrong. Can you post an image of what's left? Someone on the forum will have a brilliant salvage idea for an alternative way to finish your work I'm sure.

redhotchick
You are having a tough time! Is it Easter holidays yet?! I know what you mean about not being able to salvage your work. Can you salvage any thread? It sounds like a lovely design. Start again with all new bits. You'll soon catch yourself up!
Snowy
Oh dear Pengy, poor you, and poor James Trouble is, they do just do things like that when the will takes them. I've had some things done - at the end of the day it's my fault for leaving out things I really don't want messed with, my 4 year old is a dab hand with scissors and permanent marker pens Still doesn't make it any easier when it's something you have worked hard on does it? Take a deep breath, down the wine and remind yourself 'it's only things', it's not important in the greater scheme of life. When I was that age I used a key to make a pattern on the side of my Mum's brand new car
fluffyknickers
Its tough isnt it - you need a glass of wine and relax and think tomorrow is another day. I am sure its no consolation but I know how you feel (see "what a day" post!)

When I was that age I used a key to make a pattern on the side of my Mum's brand new car well said Snowy My mum had an ornament, a sort of metal pot with a lid, she'd bought in Turkey. It was black with a pattern etched into it so you could see the copper underneath. I decided to scratch off all the black to reveal the copper underneath. Lawd knows why but I thought I was doing her a favour by cleaning it although I must have known on some level that what I was doing was wrong, I carried on and did it anyway!? That was last week! Guest
I know I shouldn't trust him around these things but he is very good with this stuff. When I asked him why he did it he said he wanted to do some sewing and I asked if he thought I wouldn't let him and he said no he knew I'd let him. Its not fixable nor is it a piece of fabric I can give him for sewing - its far too small a count I have larger count stuff specially for him! Oh well maybe I wasn't meant to do that cockral. TAJ
It reminds me of a story talked about in my family from 40+ years ago when my sister, as a toddler, wanted a bit of material to make some dolls clothes when mum was making her a dress - she cut the fabric she wanted out of the centre of the fabric laid out to be cut for her dress so it could not be used - she has never been allowed to forget it! Poor James - we all know you love him dearly however trying you find it at times! Tracy
Valkyrie
Oh poor you. (Love the other funnies) Here's another story that hopefully will cheer you up. My naughty son decided to give my cactus a short back and sides - with my fabric scissors. I went ballistic. Many moons later at Christmas I was teaching both children a bit of Morris dancing (yep I used to do that), but instead of using hankies to twirl we used socks from the washing. Anything to get out of the ironing. So there we were jigging around the settee when DS lets go of one of his socks and it lands . . . in the ruddy cactus which had grown and therefore had lots of new barbs - which were curved at the end. It took ages to peel the sock off eventually. Oh, and they were OH's sock too - not much point in twirling younguns little things! Hopefully he didn't find any left over barbs.
