Rona
I have felt for a while that my bathroom scales were not terribly accurate as I seem to have lost nearly 2 stone in the past month but my clothes are only a little bit looser. But it is so easy to convince yourself that the scales are right and I was feeling really good about it. I even thought that they had probably got stuck at the higher weight and had just suddenly cleared and that is why I seemed to have lost so much in a short space of time, but of course the lower weight would be the right one. Got OH to weigh himself and asked him if his weight was about right on them, he said yes it was fine, just what he expected it to be. Anyway, I was passing Argos today so nipped in and bought some Body Analyser Scales - you know, those that can more or less tell you what you have had for breakfast. Jumped on them as soon as I got home and they weighed me over 3 stone more than the old ones. Got OH to weigh himself and he said 'Oh yes, its about 3 stone more than the old ones but I thought they were weighing light'. Checked it with my neighbour's scales and they weigh the same as my new ones. Goodness knows how much I weighed originally as I don't know when the old ones started going wrong but I am so disappointed.
theherd123
Dont be disappointed, dont be disappointed one bit! Scales and weight are but a number and so are dress sizes! Just because a dress has a label in it that reads '10' '12' '14' etc or the scales read 9st 7lb should not tell us how happy we should be. The key point of your post i have picked out below ... my clothes are only a little bit looser.
Looney
I agree. You've gone in the direction you wanted to go in and you were feeling better about yourself. Please don't feel too down about it. Big hugs xxxx
Mrs Frugal
Same here. I ditched our scales a couple of years ago as I find them depressing. As long as your weight doesn't affect your health, just eat sensibly and if you're losing weight, albeit slowly, that's great .
Angus Arran Chooks
Well, I think another visit to Argos is required to get a few pounds back on (your credit card) and tell them they are totally inaccurate!! Use the old scales and be happy - it will release endorfins and make you shed pounds too! Its like me and my kitchen clock - I know it is fifteen minutes fast, but I keep it that way to keep myself on time... Anjx arriving 12th may! No girls yet
Minnie the Moocher
Sling the scales away. I have never owned any and I am happy not knowing.
BeckyBoo
Really really don't worry, like theherd said, your clothes are looser! That's all that matters. I'm heavy, I'm a big girl but I don't think I'm fat although I could do with losing a stone or two, but even at my slimmest and fighting fit I'm 10 stone and that takes hard hard work. I listen to the girls at work crying over the "Oh, I'm 8stone 7 now, what am I going to do?" Well, I haven't been 8 stone since I was about 8 years old, it's just numbers, it really doesn't matter what you call it. You know if you're too big or not, and if your clothes are looser then thats pretty darned good! BeckyBoo
Plum
Can I buy your old scales please Good advice given above.
Egluntyne
I'd settle happily for my clothes being a little bit looser. Happiness isn't measured in pounds.
craftyhunnypie
Yes there are too many numbers regarding weight & dress size, BMI & healthy weight range. If I were in my healthy weight range - I'd look totally gaunt & ill! I'd sooner wear clothes to fit, rather than kid myself. I can always hang them on size 12 hangers, cut the labels out & stitch size 12 labels in them! Eat sensibly, keep active - stay safely healthy! Never starve, slob or suffer! Aunty e
I do understand - when I realised that I had been over eleven stone for ages, having been merrily convinced that I was 10 and a half (I can't convert kg to lbs apparently), I was really upset. But it is just a number, and how you feel is much more important. I tend to go on howmy clothes fit, rather than how much I actually weigh (not at the moment of course, when nothing I own fits and my husband came home with DIET MEALS for dinner last night and I had to explain to him again that I can't diet, I'm pregnant, I'm supposed to put on weight ). But my personal frustrations aside (like why is my bum bigger? How is that helping the baby? and why do my boobs need to be even bigger when they were an F cup before? ), what is a good weight for you bears no relation to what is a good weigh for someone else who might be the same height, build and age. I normally weigh two stone more than a friend of mine, but I exercise quite a bit and have strangely dense bones I suspect, as I normally weigh around 11 stone, am 5'2" and am a size 12. She is an inch shorter than I am, weighs nine stone and is a size 16. Maybe you could find a plain outfit and take pictures of yourself in it ever two weeks, and see if you can spot any difference? chickencam
I agree weight is not a good guideline, I weight 11 stone I am 5'3" and a size 12. If your clothes are looser then feel good about that. I weigh more now than I did when I had my children but the weight is better distrubuted and I look better now than then, well I like to think so anyway I was told by the practice nurse at our surgery that the only measurement that matter is your waist because a thicker waistline makes you more prone to heart disease etc. Shame then that that is where most of my excess is Keep doing what you are doing and over time you will get to where you want to be, but remember there are far more of us cuddly ladies than there are stick insects, and they reckeon that a few extra pounds as you get older helps to plump out the wrinkles
Egluntyne
I think you have diagnosed my problem there Aunty e.......heavy bones.....that must be it! Plus the fact that I have a lot on my mind.
JM
Someone once said to measure yourself in strategic places, then compare that each month. I'm always amazed when I look in magazines and see women who look larger than me, but the caption says that they are size 12 or 14 (when I am an 18/20!) How does that work? Maybe my mirrors are wrong!
Aunty e
Like when Vanessa Feltz supposedly slimmed down to a size 12, but was obviously NOT (I also think she looked much nicer with more weight on). A bit of plumpiness does help you age beautifully - I still get ID'd occasionally and it's my thirtieth next month
craftyhunnypie
I'm almost 5' 5" & I daren't tell you my weight, you'd all be amazed. Hubby can never believe it. Yes I am curvy & have a bit of a spare tyre but I'm not gross! Even when I was a size 10 in my early twenties, I still weighed 10 and a half stone! I'm a great believer in dense bones! Rona
Bless you, you are all so comforting and motivational. I do need to lose weight as my feet and other joints in general complain about carrying the excess but it was just such a shock to realise my old scales were so far out. These new ones give a % reading of fat, water and muscle and at the moment my fat % is higher than the highest on the chart and water and muscle are lower than the lowest so I will concentrate on drinking more water to stay hydrated and do more digging in the garden to increase muscle. They also say that I have 2.2Kg of bones which is towards the low end of their chart and that surprised me as I have always considered myself to be big boned as I have big hands. Maybe I ought to remember to take my calcium tablets more often as well. . However, they didn't cost a fortune being only slightly more expensive than regular plain scales so I'm sure their accuracy can't be totally relied upon and therefore I won't take any notice of what they say if I don't want to. Can I buy your old scales please I was thinking I should put them on ebay as a wonder weightloss remedy.
A chickychickychick-ENN!!
So the fact you weigh more than a machine told you makes you less attractive? Less sexy? Less beautiful? Less of a good person? Less of a wonderful person to be around? Less of a friend? Less of person to share laughter with? Less of a warm pair of arms to snuggle into? Less of a quick wit? Less of a wise mind? I don't think so.
clootie
Oh Rona - you are far too hard on yourself. I'm really looking forward to meeting you at Oasis in May, we'll have a laugh and you'll feel much better. Weight? Pah!! It's a number just like age and it really doesn't matter. It's how you feel that counts and if you feel that you would like to lose a few pounds then do it for you, not because of anyone else or because of numbers on a set of weighing scales. Anyhoo, going by the comments before this one, you've got heaps of support. They really are good eggs on this forum but don't tell them I said so. Plum
and me. I know all the spots on the floor where it weighs less. You're right clootie its how you feel that matters not weight or size of clothes, but if joints, feet, breathing, bladder and other things are feeling the strain then it's worth reviewing lifestyle and diet. (I just need to get on and do it). Dump them new scales Rona they are far too depressing and clever. Change things without them, they will just be a weight round your kneck. chickencam
Yes! I know just the right place on the bathroom floor for the scales to be the most 'acurate'
