Swine Influenza - 100+ Dead

Recommended Posts

We were given free disposable masks in PSE today at school! I couldn't believe it, me and my friends were laughing at the whole thing including these stupid masks and got a rolocking and a lecture on how serious it was. I suppose it is a measure that needs to be taken with a confirmed case only 9 miles down the road and a lot of our teachers and pupils coming from the area.

NewsFlash: As bird flu failed to take off last winter it is expected the spread of Swine Flu will give it the piggyback needed for a pandemic this winter.

Martin

In all seriousness, it does make you look at things in a different way.

In M&S earlier the cashier coughed on her hand, then packed my bag, which I wouldn't have thought twice about before (although in retrospect maybe I should have  )

Then there are so many things you touch - lift buttons, chip & pin buttons, escalator rails.....

So long as everyone is sensible, it won't be a problem.

Its when the 'I won't join in' brigade decide that they won't wash their hands, use a tissue & so forth that you get problems :?

I unpacked sons school bag earlier ( 10yr old ) and found a new pack of tissues with a Disney wrapper in the bottom of the bag , I thought ' oh, someone has been to Disneyworld and given out rather odd souvenirs' :? Have just asked him ( thanks to this thread ) 'where did you get the tissues from ?', ' oh, they were handing them out at school and telling us how to blow our noses' :o If a 10yr old needds telling WE'RE ALL DOOMED !

On the other hand, I have a neurotic husband, we are picking up more chooks on saturday and he asked me earlier ' are we still going?' , 'well of course, why would we not ? ' I was speechless when he said ' well what about this swine flu? is it safe?' :o GIVE ME STRENGTH

I have to say I'm a bit dissappointed with the Mexican authorities. How could they not realise their had swine flu before it mutated? Surely they had plenty of time! The avian influenza scare shows that if it identified soon, precautions can be taken. Luckily H5N1 never mutated to allow human-human spreading.

By the way, just to clarify, some people have been saying that the government has a vaccine. They don't. They have anti-virals to treat the flu but there is no vaccine. Also, according to the NHS, there is no evidence to suggest that face masks help prevent contracting the virus.
