Mel (& Paul)
Some of my simple pleasures:- The smell when it rains after a long dry smell
Mel (& Paul)
I am SO pleased I started this thread - all those wonderful things that make you happy - so hard to hold onto them when your day is pants and the rain is lashing down (feel sorry for (& Paul) out in the storms today!). Sometimes it is so easy to think "my life is horrible. nothing nice ever happens to me" and then all those little tiny things that make life here on earth so wonderful pop up and remind you that actually, life is not so pants and rather good
Mel (& Paul)
I have another to add too Smelling Molly's Paws when she's sleepy! I think we'd already established this is not entirely unusual amidst dog owners!! So with you there. Charlie isnt a big fan of feet smelling, but Blue adores the attention and willingly gives up her puddies for a sniff (and no, before you ask we never even TRIED with Minky.............) The Dogmother
Thanks for this thread Mel - it has brightened up a pretty cr*p day, and to quote Monty Python, it has mde me 'look on the bright side' I'd never have tried smelling Minky's paws; he just took one look at me and went for the jugular
Mel (& Paul)
I am glad it has made you lot feel a bit better - you have all been so good to me when I have been feeling pants
Mel (& Paul)
Had to go and look at the book again - boss is in "anti Mel" mode and sending all sorts of nasty emails "why did you do this / why didnt you do that" - that she would NEVER say to my face (coward) so needed to remind myself that as well as nasty toad bosses there are lots of lovely things Now, if only I still had Minky to go and bite bosses bum.............. Cate in NZ
Oh, I've been having a really bad week, so this is a lovely, heart warming thread My favourite things, just trying to compile a list brings a smile to my face Fresh, crisp clean bedlinen to climb into at night Hugs from my children- now they're teenagers hugs aren't an automatic instinct, but a hard won show of affection, and so very precious. Spring days, with blue skies and scudding, fluffy white clouds and a gently warming sun. Warm bubble baths, preferably with a glass of chilled wine. Candlelight Several years ago one of au pairs (from Denmark- a country that really knows how to handle snow) taught my children how to build mini igloos out of snow, and then light a tea light candle in it. It's a family tradition to do this on the front lawn every time it snows now, and it's so lovely coming home on a snowy, winters night to be greeted by loads of little flickering igloos. Hot chocolate with marshmallows. Fresh, warm, newly laid eggs. A brand new book by a favourite author, and a free evening to just curl up and immerse myself into it without interruptions. Jools
it is POURING with rain today and I am "working at home" all day - I am warm and cosy with the dogs snoozing at my feet It was pouring with rain here too and I work from home. Put my waterproofs on and took the dogs out for a walk in the woods. Utter bliss!!! Now they're asleep on their beds, I've had a massive mug of aromatic coffee and five Thorntons Champagne Truffles (to keep my curves curvey you understand). More bliss!!! It's stopped raining now, so I'm off to chat with the chooks. How good can life get?

Mel (& Paul)
Just thought of another one... eating your own home-grown veg Specially when you have spent about £40 on pure organic compost to put in the potato bin because your own compost is still composting, and you get enough organic new potatoes for..........about one meal
theherd123
I love this thread!!! Some of my favourite little pleasures include: Walking the bears in the wood near our house very early in the morning before anyone else is around. Snuggling up on the sofa with the bears. Having an afternoon snooze. Smiling at a someone and getting a smile back. Cloud busting in the garden on a warm sunny afternoon.

Snowdrops after winter Crisp, clean white sheets dried on the washing line in summer The smell of bonfire smoke on an autumn evening Kicking through the leaves with LSH at Burghley Peeling back the outer shell of a conker and revealing the gorgeous glossy brown conker hiding inside Collecting those little pink shells that look like baby toenails on the beach Heavy rain outside while I'm inside in the warm Foggy autumn mornings Frost on cobwebs Hot chocolate with froth on top Putting on socks warmed by the fire on a cold morning The smell of traction engines Opening a new book Finding something I've been searching for for ages at a car boot sale Hot candlelit baths
theherd123
Oh i have another one! Freshly cut wood. It reminds me of all the summers i spent at 'The Workshop' where my Grandad ran his business.
