Mel (& Paul)
I recently got a small book from Baileys (not sure why, have never drunk it! ) but it is full of "simple pleasures" some of which I thought were lovely. The ones below are some of my favourite ones. Do you agree? What are YOUR simple pleasures? 1. Wearing new socks 2. Hearing the waves of the ocean wash over the pebbles on the beach 3. Getting to the top of the stairs and remembering what you went up there for. 4. Shiny taps and sinks 5. looking slimmer by standing next to someone larger than you at the bar or in queues 6. pressing the button at traffic lights even when I am not crossing 7. bursting the foil on a new jar of coffee and being the first to smell it. 8. Sparkly clean glasses (of the drinking kind!) 9. No money but plenty of laughs and finally a poem from the book: Now here's a few facts you might like to know Size 16 was "normal" for Marilyn Monroe. and the Venus de Milo's curvaceous carved thighs were highly regarded and raised a few sighs and the Statue of Liberty wasn't designed with an under-nourished, wafer thin model in mind and Women are rounded, with bust, hips and bott They're meant to be curvy - they're men if they're not! Guest
7. bursting the foil on a new jar of coffee and being the first to smell it. Absolutely one of my favourite things - drumming the foil with a teaspoon for a minute, while the kettle boils, then deciding between the straight plunge with the edge of the spoon, or a hard thwack at the end of the drumming to burst the foil. Then peeling it back, and the smell hitting you...... Heaven!
Lesley
I was quite happy until I got as far as No.6 - then I went off on a Dan type rant and have to go off to a dark quiet room........... Nothing annoys me more than having to stop the car at a crossing because the lights are red because some idiot pressed the button and then didn't have the common decency to wait and cross the ****** road Why can't they assess the traffic and decide that they can cross without pressing the button? aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrggh - I'd better go now . I might be able to read the poem later..................

Do you think Hertz would work if I bussed all the customers up to my house and would all the fleet fit in the street?........ Nope! Ah well, never mind - enjoy it Mel! Guest
Just read that I love a lovely clean bathroom and hanging washing outside (it means a lovely sunny day) and new fresh bed linen And the first cup of tea in the morning, coming home from work and opening all the windows Walking in fresh snow and then going home to a lovely warm home The car covered in snow and knowing you haven't got to drive to work Simple pleasures indeed
Mel (& Paul)
Brilliant ones Debs!!! What about kicking all the dried leaves that the Council have swept into piles the night before (good thing about walking the dogs at 5.30am there is no one around to see you doing it )

Concerned, I took her skirt off, only to find dried leaves wedged into her knickers!
Guest
I used to love doing that on the way to school, walking through all the leaves and finding conkers and acorns. I haven't seen an acorn for years. I don't think we have oak trees by us now

Mel (& Paul)
We have LOADS of oak trees and acorns near us - Charlie and Blue eat them - I thought they were poisonous
Laura & CTB
I haven't seen an acorn for years. I don't think we have oak trees by us now I've got a huge oak tree just outside my office building - it's lethal on a windy day at the moment - playing dodge the flying acorns Simple pleasure - being curled up in front of the fire with a good book. bracken
My simple pleasure at the moment is to finally get rid of all the work peeps (decorator hopefully done tomorrow?) and have the house to myself for a change! Been living around them all since July
Cinnamon
Some of my simple pleasures:- Hot bubble baths on a cold day Ice cold white wine on a hot day The smell of baking bread The smell when it rains after a long dry smell Collecting my own hens eggs Driving into a busy car park & finding a space right away, when everyone else has driven straight past it Snow Freshly painted toe nails
The Dogmother
That's really lovely Mel and I like the poem too - must send it to Phil as he's always ranting on about how unattractive 'ironing board' models are. Some of my favourite things... (sounds like a reprise of The Sound of Music ) Crisp fresh bed linen The smell of Rosie when she's asleep A fire crackling in the stove The sound of a hot summer morning Mist and frost across the fields Not having to get up in the morning Freshly fallen snow to jump in Little chicks The soft bit on the back of Phil's head ( ) Kittens kissing you Clean laundry and house Freshly baked cakes A deserted beach....... Cinnamon
This is a lovely thread, isn't it? I feel all warm & happy reading it Nice list Clare I am adding the buzzing of bees The pop of a champagne cork The anticipation of a longed for book or movie (almost better than actually experiencing it!) & lying in bed all warm & snug,& seeing it all cold & frosty out of the window
Guest
And can I add The pleasure of finding the postman has been, and nestled amongst all the bills, and junk mail there's a lovely handwritten envelope, holding a letter from a friend. Always puts a smile on my face.
