The Dogmother
Thanks Egluntine and Debs. I have always taken the same 'non-believers tack'. Don't worry Debs, I'll keep you informed.
Cate in NZ
We struggled with this one when mine were younger, not least because hubby thought we should tell them that he didn't exist from very early on Since I still believe in him to this day we had a few disagreements at the time. Unfortunately there was a small, but significant group of children in their primary school who belonged to some fundamentalist Christian group, and they and their families very loudly objected to all the Father Christmas stuff at school, and vociferously voiced their opinions about the whole FC debate from an early age, which naturally led to all the children questioning who was right, parents or Brethren. We also struggled with the if FC delivers presents to all the children, why has a friend got a bike, a playstation and a new mobile phone, whilst I only got a gameboy, and a few books. Or whatever... you get the picture. I think that when they start asking the questions they're putting everything together and beginning to recognise that the whole story doesn't quite add up, and the brighter they are the earlier they'll recognise that. That said to this day I haven't agreed with them that he doesn't exist, I've just told them that it's all part of the magic of Christmas, parents play a big part in the arrangements, but that even we a little bit of Father Christmas magic to make the whole season special
Martin B
I thought along the lines of 'he exists for really small children, but he can't manage to get round all the big children, so the parents have to help out' That's really clever! It's such a shame that she might know though, it's not nice when you find out Santa isn't real! However even though I know Santa doen't exist we still put out the carrots for rudolph, a glass of milk and a mince pie. Me and Sean also write letters on Christmas Eve! It's just traditional. Just because she knows Santa doesn't exist she can still enjoy Christmas as normal! Do you think that somebody never found out that Santa didn't exist. Had kids, went to bed and went downstairs to no presents!

What do you mean Martin? Surely you don't buy presents? Why don't you suggest to your parents that they try it this year and see what happens? buffie
I think Rosie is probably aware but I think it's a matter of what he stands for...All that's good and thinking of loved ones and sharing at a special time of year. You'll get it right Clare, lets face it the tv gives pretty much away but don't we all want the magic. BBx

Karen & co.
As to FC, my older 3 still haven't said that they don't believe, and last year we went to Lapland, as I thought it would be magical (and it was ) I have heard them talking to each other and friends, and when they mentioned someone who didn't believe, then it was followed by why they should I couldn't bring myself to sit them down and break the spell, I don't want to lie either Although I know they don't believe and this may be the last year Sarah does as she is 8 and has a few more street wise friends than her The older 3 are happy to put out the carrots and milk and a snack for FC, and comment on the teeth marks left on the end of the carrot Even after I left home my parents made up stockings with little surprises for us all, and I want to do this too karen x

The Dogmother
and the Housework elves aka (& Paul) eh Mel? I just love the magic of it and was very nearly in tears in Lapland when we met FC himself - he was just as I'd always imagined for all those years. 'Clap hands if you believe in fairies'. The Dogmother
White feathers (there are a lot in our garden just now ) always make us whisper that angels are nearby. Dust dancing on the sunlight makes us wonder whether it's fairies.
