you will be fine I promise! I had my first one about 6 weeks ago at the age of 33 (!) and was terrified. I have a wonderful dentist and I didn't even need an anaesthetic. I think it is all those years of hearing the drill that puts the fear into you. The drilling actually took very little time and sounds worse than it really is. if ever I need another one I won't worry at all. Hope that puts your mind at ease x

Thanks for your good wishes and could you hold them for a while? My dental surgery messed up and only booked me in for a 10 minutes check up instead of the filling

 

I had get myself prepared and was pretty chilled now I am annoyed, I have to wait until the 22nd

Oh dear. Probably a wasted sleepless night. My 25 year old daughter had her first filling a couple of weeks ago in Cheltenham and she was fine. Didn't even need an injection. Good luck for the 22nd.

It wasn't the filling itself that was horrible ... That was fine, apart from all the drilling and those funny tool things they use . It was the numb feeling - and having to walk through town dribbling and having the whole of my right side completely numb.

 

My mouth was numb from about 9.45 this morning, and its only just starting to wear off now. And now its really sore where the numbing injection went in . I can't even open my mouth wide enough to bite my sandwich .

 

*Goes off to feel sorry for myself*.

I know what you mean after years of braces, rubbish enamel, coating my teeth because of rubbish enamel, broken teeth and patching up the broken tooth

But I haven't had a filling ... yet

DD had a tooth out on Monday. It was only a baby tooth so I had assured her that it wouldn't be too bad!

 

The root wouldn't come out and she had to have two extra injections and she was not a happy bunny. The root is still there!! Poor thing.

Can't remember my first ever sandwich filling, but I've got a feeling that I will remember my first tooth filling

Well I am back from that first filling experience. He has had to put in a strong temporary filling because he couldn't fully drill the tooth out without exposing the nerve. I don't have to go back until November for the permenant one. He is hoping that my tooth will have regrown some of the internal dentine by then.

 

The worst thing about the whole experience was the rubber square that he clamped across my mouth and onto some of my teeth to keep everything dry he said. At first it was covering most of my nose too and I occasionally have panics about breathing. I know this sounds silly but sometimes when I am dropping off to sleep I become aware of my breathing and seem to forget how to do it I started to panic this morning I don't hink I showed it i just move the thing away from my nose a bit and he then taped it down a bit lower.

 

It was like some horrible torture device I had to really force myself to relax and not panic

 

He isn't really a very friendly soul unlike some of the ones in Claret's thread, at least he didn't tell me when he was going to put the injection in and that was painless. I hate this numbness though and really want some toast and coffee but can't eat until about 1.30

At least you had anesthetic, when I had my one done, I didn't get any! (not as bad as it sounds)

Glad you are o.k. I recently had a bottom tooth crown fitted. Lots of drilling and 3 injections. However the dentist was very nice and as I was scared to eat for days afterwards I lost weight. Good luck for your next appointment.
