Can The Cube be built single handed????

Recommended Posts

I did it with the help of a 2 yar old, get an electric screw driver and you will be fine, the only thing I would say is there are sometimes bits missing and you may have a problem if you are getting your girls the smae day.

I built my (cube green) with the help of a few chickens but no one else! It took my a couple of hours but I did put the run pieces upside down  so had to redo and those P clips are a fiddle.

Also as Electricbarbarella said sometimes there are bits missing......the roof sliders were missing with mine but this didn`t stop me putting the chooks in!

Electric screwdriver is a MUST in my opinion! :D

I'm sure you'll be fine, I did mine as a two person job with OH but could have done it on my own.

Just out of interest, will your girls be getting any free-range time? Reason I ask, is that I had 4 girls in my cube (1 passed away) and it was a tight squeeze. I know omlet say its for 6, but I think 4 should be the maximum from my experience. My girls get 2-3 hours free-ranging a day but I'm already planning a WIR as I'd like more girls and don't think I could fit more in the run. My logic was, if I was going to start buying extensions I may aswell get a WIR first as last.

I'm not trying to be negative, I just wish someone had told me in advance!

However, chicken keeping is THE BEST! They are unbelievable fun, so entertaining to watch and are really easy to keep. :D

Good luck!

A resounding 'yes'! The instructions are very clear and I built it myself in under 2 hours a couple of weeks ago :)

Agree with the above that an electric screwdriver is an excellent idea - I tended to line things up using a manual and then finish them all off using the electric. All my bits were present and correct and I agree that the P clips are fiddly but doable.

The most problems I had were getting the sides of the run on with the washers and screws - at the point it would have been easier to have someone holding them for support but it still got done fairly easily :)

I'm keeping 4 chooks in mine too when they arrive and I'm so excited about going out there and seeing it in use!

Yes, I too built mine on my own and ditto to everything said about an electric screwdriver, or at least a manual one with a good-grip handle.

My (cube green) arrived two days before I adopted my first and foremost ex-batts and was missing the roosting bars and the nesting box partition, which didn't arrive for nearly a week . I put bedding in the poo-trays and they managed perfectly well until the full kit arrived :D

:)I have a cube and put it together in about 2.5 hours. a battery driver is useful but not neccessary. The P clips can be fiddly but turn them so the P is on the l/hand side (if you are righthanded) and they seem easier. Regarding debsi's quote that four chooks seem crowded in the cube, I have six roosting in mine and there is plenty of room, in fact I reckon another six will fit in
