chickencam
My ED did her qualifying weekend for her DofE Bronze this weekend. The first day went fine and they were the first to camp. The following day the assessors told them that they had to make a route change because they had calculated their total distance incorrectly and were about 3 km too short. They were also not happy that they had to cross a local trunk route twice and one of those places was at a notorious accident blackspot Their new route was of course not so well plotted as their original route and they got lost, managing to go around in a complete circle which took them 2.5 hours. To complicate matters the weather was atrocious. It took them 8 hours to complete their route. They have however been passed by their assessor because they managed to find their own way and showed real team spirit and determination He also bought them all a big hot chocolate each at the pub where they finished. She was completely soacked to the skin despite water proof coat and trousers, but she is so proud of herself. Some of you may have read my posts a year or so ago about her various social phobia problems. She would feel very sick and have panic attacks and always needed to know where the nearest loos were. We had to force her into many situations that were outside her comfort zone but neccesary for her to do. I have even had her begging me to take her home when going into town on the bus for a shopping trip with her friends. This has sometimes left me feeling like the wicked witch of the west, but it has been worth while She has come such a long way and I am so proud of her and she is very proud of herself She told me last night that most of the girls are doing this as something to put on their CV in the future she said to her is was much more of a personal challenge which has made her feel good about herself I was a bit sad to find out that she is the only one of her friends who has turned up at school this morning though. I texted her back and told her to be doubly proud.
..lay a little egg for me
Oh well done her! Many congrats. That is brilliant. What school does she go to? I was born and brought up in good old Cheltenham.
Ain't Nobody Here
Good for her . It sounds like a huge challenge even if you don't have anxieties like she does . She should be very proud of herself (doubly so for going in to school today ) .

chickencam
To top it all, she is at school without her friends and now has bad period pain, but she is sticking it out having had some paracetamol. I said that I would pick her up but I think she wants to be able to say that she stuck it out

..lay a little egg for me
OK. I went to the Convent yes, before you ask, I do have all the usual convent girl problems I believe the nuns have left now and it is an independent school (not sure). D of E was not considered suitable for us girls in my day, we had to settle with orienteering to the local bakery to buy lardy cakes (which explains my current figure)

jackiepoppies
Liz, What an achievement, you must be so very proud of her Someone once said to me that you know when you've done something right as a parent when your child can go and do something independently. So well done you too Jx

Helly Welly
She's made real progress with her social phobia and sounds like she had a whale of a time on the expedition. She should be very proud of herself, especailly as she went to school today. I suggest a nice long hot bath when she gets home.
