ajm200
I know this is an odd question for a chicken forum but I know that lots of you have tiny babies or grandchildren and might share my dilemma. My baby daughter is 8 months old and just starting to 'cruise' around the furniture so I want to get her some shoes to support her feet. Sounds straightforward enough... here's my problem... She's really tiny...8 months old, 12lbs and still mainly in 0-3 clothes and newborn socks and shoes so just a tiddller.... We occasionally manage a 3-6 pair of trousers if her real nappy is extra bulky. I've tried Clarks and John Lewis but all I can get is very soft first bootees.. Clarks can't fit her for proper shoes until she's size 2.... Any ideas where I can get suitable shoes for her..
jackiepoppies
Hi there, I may be way off the mark here, but why put shoes on her Shoes only became a neccessity in mans recent history and have probably caused more foot problems than anything else (I know from wearing very pointed, high stilettos in my youth ) Why not let her feet develop naturally I would be interested to hear any medical opinions. The Spencers
With our two boys we were told that they shouldn't have 'proper' shoes until they were walking properly on their own - at least eight or ten steps (I think) without any support. Personally we didn't get them any kind of shoes until they were actually walking and even then they only wore them for going outside. I think socks or bare feet are fine indoors or even in the garden. Cruising shoes just seem a bit of a marketing gimmick. Something else they try and convince you you need to buy. Tessa the Duchess
I'm with Jackie on this one I don't think children need proper shoes until they start walking on the pavement. I bought both my children Padders which are soft shoes made of corduroy or denim which are like socks only they have elasticated ankles. Ain't Nobody Here
Sorry, but I agree with the others . My two just had Padders until they could walk and they both have lovely feet (as feet go ) .
ajm200
Thanks for the advice. My son didn't have shoes until he was walking properly outside but he had a peculiar walking style that he eventually grew out of. The Health Visitor suggested his walking might have been better if he'd had shoes earlier.. making me feel like an awful mum. I never know what to do for the best. It seems whatever I do some heath visitor has other ideas.. I think my faith in my mothering instincts is low this time round as she is sooo slow to grow that I already feel like I'm failing her... I guess I'll wait..
Egluntyne
I agree too. Mine all had Padders.
Becka
My most recent child has progressed from soft shoes to Crocs and wellies. Her favourite footwear has to be her big sister's and she's five years older than her and very tolerant!
clootie
Mine had Bobux until they were walking outside which was probably around 15/18 months or thereabouts. http://www.bobux.co.uk/
theherd123
I have to agree with the others too but knowing this dilemma will soon be upon us i bought Isabelle a pair of Moccis. www.moccis.co.uk Im happy for her to pad around in these outside so she doesnt hurt her feet but indoors she will be like Sandy Shaw

sunshinesupernova
Try Shoo Shoos too - Oliver has a pair of those. He either has shoo shoos or a little pair of velcro trainers from Next when he's bouncing in his Jumparoo as he goes absolutley nuts bouncing ! The rest of the time - ie crawling / cruising (he's been crawling and cruising for 2 weeks now - 7 months old) he generally has socks on with grippy dots on the soles from Marks and Spencers
fluffyknickers
Yes you HAVE to get 'shoes' from Robeez http://www.robeez.co.uk/EN-UK/default.htm?Lang=EN-UK&PriceCat=3&RefID= They are fantastic, long lasting, safe, gorgeous etc!
Hens@HalfMoonLane
I agree with the others, I went to a talk by a podiatrist when my son was younger and she said not to put any shoes (or socks if it's not cold) on until he went outside. I can only just imagine how cute she must look that tiny cruising round with a big bottom. My 3 year old son still wears the shorts I had to buy for him when he was 9 months old to fit his real nappies in cos he was such a chunky baby. Mutrix Farmers
Mothercare used to sell a sort of corduroy boottee that was elasticated around the ankle, perfect for cruising around the furniture. I was told it is actually harmful to put small children in hard soled shoes while they are still perfecting the art of walking as they need to be able to feel the ground and can't if the sole isn't flexible. My pet hate? 6 month babies sitting in pushchairs wearing Nikes! Why??
craftyhunnypie
I've bought some shoo shoos for my sister's baby ( due in 8 weeks). I bought them as they were soft, not like a shoe, more like a leather bootee. I know them padders ( having been a nanny) - wonderful things. I also can not stand to see trainers on babies. Especially if they have burberry caps to go with. Even worse is when people put them in football kit. Let babies be babies! Emma.x
Cooks
mine has padders as well
ajm200
Thanks everyone. I had her in traditional padders at playgroup today (too cold for bare feet) and she was slipping and sliding all over the place so I have got some suede bottomed padders from inch blue as these should have more 'grip' and be a bit safer.
