Shame to let a good broody go to waste
atsw
Worked for me 19 days ago! Although I didn't have to collect a hen, mine went broody all on her own . I have the same plan for any boys. Andrew

Speaking as a woman who drove across country to pick up a Goldtop who just happened to be broody, I know that it would be a shame to let all that natural inclination go to waste
Redwing
Its the only gold partridge pekin the lady has, I knew it was broody but wanted it anyway as they are so cute and the seller has really good stock apparently Run it past hubby and he says yes, 3 pet eggs and 3 table bird eggs only and any pets hatched are to be sold to pay for the whole venture

The Dogmother
Go for it Tasha - you'll love the experience. One of my pekins is constantly broody in the summer months and is a brilliant mum. Next summer, I am going to get some fertile pure breed eggs to hatch under her; a friend has asked me to hatch her some littlies, so they will be bantams I don't need any new stock myself, although things may have changed by then

Yolky
Could you pop a couple of turkey eggs under her? Can I ask, with your table birds will you or your OH be doing the despatching or do you take them somewhere to be done?
Redwing
I do it, OH doesnt want to see it till it hits the table on a plate! I went on the course in Sheffield with some other Omleteers to learn how
Lewis
Could you pop a couple of turkey eggs under her? You have to be careful raising turkeys and chickens together. Chickens all carry blackhead disease which doesn't affect them, but it does affect turkeys. I'm pretty sure you can get vaccinations for it to give to the turkey poults though (Our 600+ turkey poults arrived at the farm last weekend )
Redwing
I think Yolky was joking... or at least I hope she was I can't stand the 'woggle-woggle-woggle' noise turkeys make
Yolky
I was sort of joking on the turkeys....as it is for christmas lol!!! I am not sure I could despatch, I should ask the OH if he thinks he could do it because I wouldn't mind having some table birds. However as I am vicariously living through your flock I think you should put duck eggs under your broody. I would love some duckies! A house has come up for sale, not too far from us (in Hanham) which has a 250foot garden, I have to say I am a little tempted...
Redwing
I would love some ducks but remember having them as a child and that they were really messy and smelly 250ft garden in Hanham.... that house would be a good buy
