Drew and Alan
Hi Everyone!! Just a quick post to say we finaly have some hens after weeks of hard work renovating our chicken house!!!!! We have 8 POLs in total! were only supposed to be having 6 but after weeks of nagging, Alan finaly said we could have the 8! they are 2 Warrens 2 Copper black Marans 2 light Sussex 1 Cendrés / Cendree (different spellings) but means Ashes in english 1 Medicis . We dont know what the last two hens are called in english or if they are just french breeds / hybrids ?? but the last two were more expensive than the others. They have been in there for 2 hours now and are settling in nicely (we hope!) are a bit worried though as its nearly 40°C outside but they have plenty of water and some shade! Its just too hot for us to stay out there watching them unfortunately! Did want to add some yoghurt to the mash for them but we are a bit concerned in this heat that it would turn to cheese! Will post some photos soon!! We have a list of names for the girls but are waiting to get to know them better first! a plus! Sammy
Hi Drew and Alan I think Peggy is a Bluebird - well she looks the same as my Bluebird "Midnight". Seren looks like my Silver Sussex Streamer "Vimto" but I can't see her fully from the front. Hope you have many years of enjoyment - I'm loving mine, but like you it's so hot I'm having to watch them from my kitchen window - I sat out with them on Monday and got serious sunstroke! My 7 are covered with a sunshade and getting plenty of icecubes in their water and on the ground. Also hung a couple of juicy apples which they love but they look very hot!!!
