FruitandNutCake
Just thought I'd share some before and after photos. Unfortunately I lost two of my ex batts within a few months, but the one who had the least feather (called Sinead because she was so bald) suprised me by starting to lay again after about 9 months! Sinead now Sinead and Maisy now I finally managed to get them the right size!! Edited July 11, 2009 by Guest

FruitandNutCake
Ta. Only took me about an hour to get the pictures right! It is amazing how they have changed in character now. Sinead follows me around everywhere and is the easiest to pick up! When I first got them they could hardly walk - now they can fly!

BigGav
Wow. I had thought about getting some battery hens after I had got the hang of my new chickens and eglu, after seeing your pictures I think I will. Well done
FruitandNutCake
Thanks. And it's surprising looking at the colour change in their feathers - they have gone from dull dark brown to a lovely glossy golden colour (btw the grey one is Chucky - not an ex batt - now that would be amazing to go from brown to grey!). I would love to get more, but the group I have are so happy together, I wouldn't want to upset them. I would definitely recommend ex batts - it's so good to be able to a make a difference even to just a couple of birds.
teri
how wonderful to see the difference in your girls you should be really proud of yourself its such a sin that they get like that in the first place. since i've kept chickens most of my family and half the street no longer buy supermarket eggs. they either have mine or go to the farmers market. they can't believe the difference in the colour or taste. just shows what happy chickens can produce. beulah59
If you're getting ex-batts, why not get 4 or 5 now and another 4 or 5 in a year or so, to help keep the production of eggs going if the first lot stop laying or slow down?

*mummy_hen*
Lovely girls!! Aren't they doing well! It is amazing how much they change in a year, i sometimes forget how bad mine were when we first rescued them. Other people wouldn't know. It really is so rewarding having ex-batt girls. I am sorry to hear you lost 2, i have lost 4 of my 5 girls now but am just grateful for the time i had with them.
