Olly
A reminder from the moderating team about internet safety. Please don't forget that this is an open forum - anyone can read the posts on here without joining as a member. * Please don't post phone numbers or email addresses * You may want to think twice before posting personal information that might identify you to others, such as where you live or pictures of your home * Many people who 'meet' on the forum go on to make contact in real life, but please be cautious if you are going to send your phone number, address, email address or any other personal details such as any log in information to another member * Don't forget that people often use forums to gain someone's confidence, and criminals are skilled at pretending to be someone 'ordinary' in order to do this This is a friendly forum and we want all our users to be safe, but Omlet cannot 'vet' members so please be 'net aware'. The Dogmother
With the holiday seasonupon us, it's best not to post advanced notice of your hols - easy target for burglars We'd love to see photos on your return though.
Guest
I'm often concerned when I see younger posters posting their age
Happy-Mama
Thanks Olly and Claret, for the reminder. This forum is so friendly it is easy to forget that anyone can access/view it and therefore anyone can see what we post. I certainly do forget sometimes... Chook n Boo Mum
Thanks Olly and Claret, for the reminder. This forum is so friendly it is easy to forget that anyone can access/view it and therefore anyone can see what we post. I certainly do forget sometimes... Ditto I must admit to considering various Omleteers as friends now...although I wouldn't know most of them in the street Should I get out more do you think?! The Dogmother
I know I'm not alone in having made some wonderful friends via this forum, many of whom I have met. I know I've posted in the past and then had to edit posts to make them less 'revealing'. Because of the friendly environment, it's easy to forget that this is a public forum. Space Chick
Ditto Wild Mum. I count several people on here as my friends. When I met PurpleTree last month OH was a bit concerned when he found out I was going to her house. As he said it could have been an axe murderers house. I'm pleased to announce that PurpleTree was a lovely host and I can now class her officially as a "real" friend, and she's not an axe murderer However, it is true that you don't know who could be on here
Jules.
When poachedegg came to visit my many moons ago I had my dad round for safety She said she felt quite strange coming to my home, & brought her family with her
The Dogmother
I've done a 'chicken train' - providing the transport for a rehoming between two people I know - I'd never met one of them, but made sure that we rendez-voused at a public place. Jillus
I have often wondered about people posting that they are going off on holiday too. You can never be too careful but the Omlet types I have met have all been an absolute delight. But I too have edited posts that might identify me too much. Guest
Some of us go on holiday and don't leave the house empty! In fact there was more occupancy than when we are here!
Jillus
Us too, when we go away the boys come home to 'house sit', which means sort out the freezer for me and get rid of all the things in it that I must have forgotten were in there, they also do regular quality control checks on the beer and wine stocks! Redwing
One thing I try to do is only take pictures facing away from the house/ any landmarks etc.. which is a useful tip I also on purpose made my location much more vague - something else to consider (the trouble is I did this on the day Palmer07 came to visit and she was relying on my profile to remind her of the name of the place she did make it here safely though )
Valkyrie
I admit I have been told off by DD as to safety. Then I have had a lecture by my mum. Jlo took a jog to see my house before we met and I popped some bran into Egg Lou's at her mums the first time we met up. Then we all met up in the pub in Old Basing and had a nice evening. Even then I got a lecture by DD.
Olly
We don't want to scare anyone, but it is a fact that you just don't know who you're dealing with on the internet and it's wise to be cautious. The exceptionally friendly tone of this forum could lull people into a false sense of security. Now, where did I put the axe .... I'm going to chop some wood, honest! Guest
OK Olly now I have a picture of you with your axe standing next to Claret with her chainsaw - very realistic pictures as I have met both of you before - in suitably public places. Of course many others have come to my home as strangers - to attend Hen Parties!
