The Dogmother
They might not get posted until then - oh well, better late than never. Had to clear somewhere of dust before I could start writing them!
Sheilaz
Thanks Eglutine, I'd better get started. I've written one so far (to go in the parcel that needs posting today, thanks to the earlier reminder. ) OK, Esther ill for 10 days with tonsillitis, still trying to rehe"Ooops, word censored!" for professional panto part, 1st performance tonight, now has ear pain. Son, in Romania, coming home soon, needs a bedroom, full of junk (and needs a job ) Son 2 working flat out to sell toys on his own regular St.Albans market stall, house full of stock coming & going, he'll be doing 9 consecutive days from Sat. & I'm his part time driver/sales assistant, general meal provider & chief worrier for the week. Daughter exhausted working flat out at HMV, then needs another job/life/place to live, wonders if being vegan is making her so tired, snappy & low etc. Dear LSH...throwing up all night...agh! Must have drunk too much river water..... (I mean river water, not a euphamism) or caught a bug. Me? Should be at work (I wish I was, it's my escape ) and not at all at my wit's end. Think I'll go & wrap parcel & write the 2nd card. Sorry, no idea what thread I've just ruined, but I really appreciate being kept up to date with the outside world & posting times! Amidst all this both parents very fragile, we thought Father only had a few days after he was diagnosed with fluid on lungs & heart failure. Then he was told it's not heart failure. Good, but very odd. Still unwell, and I'm chief support there. Still, with the other things, I forgot to worry about this for a few mins. PS. Just read thread title...no, I don't think I'll write a round robin, although maybe I could just print out this post!
chocchick
Shelia, sounds awfully stressful. I'm not entirely sure why LSH would have swallowed river water, but sounds like the least of your worries. I recommend a cup of tea.
Karen & co.
Gosh, I hope your day gets better I'm off work too as my youngest has tonsillitis she is tucked up on the sofa watching a dvd and dozing off now and again, and I'm trying to be in the same room and sort out eveything else that all households have at this time of year karen x
Sheilaz
... I'm not entirely sure why LSH would have swallowed river water..... Not what I'd choose to do! But, he wants to hatch some fish eggs in the river, and was doing something very involved syphoning water to get it flowing through the hatching tank. His method to get the water up the tube is to suck the air out until the water fills it, and, er, I believe he swallowed quite a few mouthfuls. (No fever, you can imagine what I've been thinking in the night) You're right, I will have that cup of tea!
The Dogmother
My ex used to compete at white water rafting and the standard procedure they had when they'd swallowed river water was to make themselves sick quickly. They always had dodgy tums and one of his mates had Weils disease.
Sheilaz
Quite, he must think he's indestructable. But, he came home soaked though despite the full body waders and told me how much he'd swallowed I saiod, well, at least you haven't got any cuts (thinking Weil's disease through open wound). He said, yes I have, I've got loads all over my hands. He'd love to make out it's my cooking, not his foolishness, but we ate the same & I'#m fine, and I'd be the first to go if the food was dodgy. So, I'll save my sympathy for Esther who's being a real little trooper. (Is there a Man's Weil's disease, not the actual disease, a bit like man flu? )
Guest
Oh, Sheila, poor you! And very poor Esther I do hope she'll be all right for the pantomime. Is she on antibiotics? My sympathies go to all women trying to get ready for Christmas, but now having the added burden of sick people around them. We can cope with everything I know, but when unplanned things descend on us it makes all those last-minute panics impossible! I am thrilled at the moment to discover I have written all the cards and individual letters and wrapped up all the parcels. Unfortunately, I have a major choir practice to prepare for this evening and I've done nothing towards it! Going out at 1:30 to see a school play, so feeling a little impossible now! Even more unfortunately, I seem to have lost my panic mode! I am so laid back and just can't seem to care about any of it! Sheila, I'm thinking of you and all of your poor family! Nicola H
Sheila I hope everybody gets better soon and that Esther is a hit in the Panto...............It will all come together for Christmas I am sure.
AnnieP
Sheila, my best wishes for a speedy recovery to all of yours. I have been on antibiotics now for 3 weeks! Last visit to the Drs. they said I had tonsilitis, sinusitis and an ear infection! My own fault for not going sooner: I've been under the weather for 6 weeks and its really taken hold. Hope you've got Esther to the Drs. for some treatment too: I think at this time of year, people get so stressed and run down that sometimes it is just too much to fight off infections as well. Have a big cup of tea and concentrate on whatever is most important. All else will wait..... (except the Man Weil's probably ). Oh, and another thing, you may all know this, but if not, hope it may help.....My doctor, whom I think is wonderful and trust utterly, recommended Contac for congestion. He says nothing else is as good....... Joe?? I know you're not to dispense with general advice on such things as forums, but a nod or a wink would suffice?!! Mrs Frugal
Oh Sheila, sorry to hear poor Esther's still not well, bless her. I hope she's on the mend soon so she can enjoy taking part in the panto. As for LSH! When will they learn . It's not a good time to have additional stresses so I hope that everything calms down in time for Christmas so you can all sit back and enjoy yourselves. xxx
Cate in NZ
Sheila, what a catalogue of worries and catastrophes. Poor you . Somehow it never seems to rain but it pours. I do hope that Esther is feeling better very soon, that your Dad's health improves and that OH's Man-Weils proves to be nothing too serious. I'm sure that if anyone can stay calm and collected under all that pressure it's you . Good luck with getting everyone recovered and settled for what sounds like could be a fabulous Christmas with all the family back home again. Sheilaz
Good luck, Helen, I'm sure your friends love to receive them. Thanks everyone for listening earlier! I was thinking, amidst one thing after another this week, that I really couldn't take it if I opened a smug, perfect family, R.Robin. On the other hand, I wouldn't like to receive a really grim one either. I do like receiving them, sometimes it's hard to keep in touch regularly with old friends, but I'm still genuinely interested in them. But, I'll just write a few separate personal lines in some cards.
Hellcat
No, I'm sure they all hate to get them as much as me. Its the first year I've ever done one. Normally I'm like you, a few lines in the card but as its the 13th and I havent started them yet... By the way, just took my Christmas cake out of the oven and it looks Heavenly! It'll never make it to Christmas...
Louise
I have just sent a card to a friend who I haven't seen for about 6 years and as so much has happened I said I would ring her in the New Year - besides I don't want to depress her at Christmas
Lesley
Ooh, if your round robin book is going to be doing the rounds, do please send it round to me too! Linda - I've finished the books - I was waiting for your address. Would you still like the books? They are very funny
Linda
Yes, please! Have pm'd you.
Egluntyne
We had a belter of a round robin from a former colleague of Him Indoors. We get one every year and Hyacinth Bouquet would be delighted to receive it. It boasts of spouses MBE and her surprise party attended by Sir Somebody this and Lady That....... Meetings with the Prince of Wales......Glorious picnics at Glyndebourne.......holidays in Cuba and Nepal......the atom splitting abilities of their perfect in every way grandchildren, all of whom have ludicrous names and all of whom are aged under 3........"Mummy's" (spouses mother) failing health ..although she continues to be a "joy and delight" (of course....although they could do with her money)....His decision to apply to be ordained in their joyless religion (think Christian Voice type).....their "exquisite" holiday home... I could go on..... I think I will send it to Simon Hoggart.......It is worthy of publication in his next book!
Lesley
Oooh Yes! - it sounds like a brilliant candidate!
The Dogmother
I got the usual joyless missive from 'abroad' this year - all the usual achievements of sainted daughter now at Cambridge and a prodigy (strange looking child though). Holiday home on Malaysia, glam holidays..... I have to admit that they usually go straight in the bin after a quick speed-read.
