henriette
For several weeks now loved one has been complaining of stiff joints and aching shoulders. We cut an enormous laurel hedge and loved one has been building a big duck/goose house, so we put it down to strain and getting on a bit! Our trip down to the Pyrenees to see my little grandson was about to start on Thursday, so this morning, still very stiff, we went off to see the Doc for some slightly stronger pain killers. During the examination the Doc listened to loved one's heart and it was completely irregular, so he immediatly did some sort of cardiac test which was transmitted down the phone to be analysed. The results came back with something about a "flutter" and we are off to the heart specialist tomorrow and the trip down south has been cancelled. Not too sure what a flutter means nor what the treatment is, but no doubt we will find out tomorrow. Just hope it is not too serious. Anyway, dear loved one, apart from being annoyed at having to "waste time" going to see the specialist, is secretly quite pleased. He wasn't too keen to go anyway He is now sitting quitely reading one of the books he ordered from Amazon for the holiday

Tiggy
sounds like atrial fibrilation - AF- its really common & normally easy to treat, I hope he is OK

Biker Chick
Hope everything goes ok for you both tomorrow xx
quickcluck
Yup, an atrial flutter is very easily treated, and can go undiagnosed for ages as the person suffering doesnt really notice the problem! So worry not, I think your trip is just postponed not cancelled!!!
henriette
Thank you very much everyone for all your kind messages. Certainly, as far as loved one is concerned, he has had no other symptoms. Infact, after the test, his heart was beating normally again. He is still more bothered about his aches and pains in his joints!! Anyway, I know the right decision has been made and that the visit to the specialist tomorrow is the best thing to do. Lets hope as you say, that its AF and easily sorted Thanks again everyone, and if you don't mind I'll let you know the outcome tomorrow. Have a good evening

henriette
Didn't post anything yesterday as we are still awaiting blood test results. Specialist was reasonably happy and said there are some irregularities, but he wants to wait for the blood tests. With regard to all the aches and stiffness, we are going to see an osteopath in an hour or so as loved one really doesn't want another sleepless night. Ain't Nobody Here
Hope the osteopath can help - there's nothing worse than sleepless nights . Sounds like the blood test results may be good if the specialist is happy .
henriette
Hi, Well it today seems more positive. The osteopath was excellent. He is pretty convinced that the knee problems are due to arthritis, and shoulder is tendonitis which should slowly improve. We went back to see the doctor this morning and the blood test results were OK. It would appear that the heart problem was just a "flutter". However, the recomendation is that loved one stays on a small dose of medication which should stop it happening again. As far as the aches and pains are concerned though, he is not sure what the knee problems are. We didn't actually tell him we had seen an osteopath (not really wanting to tread on his toes) but anyway, an x-ray has been booked for next Wednesday. He now thinks that the shoulder problem is not linked to the knees and that it is probably tendonitis. So at least that's two people with the same diagnosis! Strong anti-inflamatories (with something to protect the stomach as well) and a stronger painkiller have been prescribed, so hopefully a good night's sleep tonight. Might have to have a little word with Henri the cockerel to ask him to crow a little later in the morning Again, thank you everyone for your kind words. Although it turned out to be nothing serious, it is always a bit of a worry.

henriette
I'm glad nothing is too serious & everything settles down soon When will you get to see the littl'un now ? Sha x Probably not until December now. He is 1000Km away - about ten hours drive. My daughter and son-in-law have a ski/cycle/walk etc business, so it is also dependant on when they are free. It will be at least a month before loved one is able to drive any distance. I might look into the cost of flights though. Never mind, it's Jack's 1st birthday today and we Skyped, so at least I was able to see him if not cuddle him He'll have to wait for his pressie though as it is a sort of push along/sit upon car and is too big to post!! Purplemaniacs
It's a shame that you could not be there in person for Jack's birthday but good you could share in it. The wonders of modern technology I am sure he will have another special day when you do see him. Chrissie
