Leicester_H
1. Is there a definiative definition ? 2. What do you think ? Two doesn't seem enough to call them a flock, three ? four ? six ? This is about terminolgy NOT how many chickens people NEED !!

Egluntyne
Me too, pair, trio, flock!
Space Chick
When I had 4 I didn't term them as a flock, however, when I had 7 they seemed like they were a flock and I called them a flock. Now I have 12 they are definitely a flock. So, for no reason other than how my insane head works, I am going for

..lay a little egg for me
I've got 4 but I don't think of them as a flock, so I went for 6. *Note to self: get 2 more chickens soonest*
Lewis
I think 3, as I'd class a trio as a mini-flock.
chelsea
I would also say 3. With a pair you have no pecking order, as soon as you have 3 hens you have a pecking order = a flock.
Plum
aww, Space Chick, does this mean that my 11 big girls are a flock but my 5 ickle bantams are not? Snowy
I also felt that my original four were not a flock, but when I went up to 6 it was definitely a flock! You need 3 more Hazel
Space Chick
aww, Space Chick, does this mean that my 11 big girls are a flock but my 5 ickle bantams are not? I thought i had two flocks, ah well, back to the drawing board Perhaps the bantams are a peep Technically they are all "Peeps" and not "Flocks" as that is the official collective noun for a group of chickens. However, I still call my lot my flock Still doesn't accurately predict how many constitutes a flock though
beulah59
My four are a flock ... if they're hanging round my feet because they think I have something worth eating, it's like being surrounded by a dozen or more, just can't get them out from under my feet
