Chook n Boo Mum
I answered a freecycle add last week for chicken wire & fence posts, but appeared to miss the boat as a message appeared...within 2 minutes ......to say it had all gone..heyho, thems the breaks think I & carry on with my life This evening I get back to a message to say am I "still interested in the chickens and wire ect"..........err no mention of chooks in original offer message "offer chicken wire, fence posts", just that she's getting rid of her chickens due to allergy, which I understood to mean chooks had been rehomed & fence was surplus......... Anyway apparently its 6 red hens 11 months old & laying..and I've said I can take the hens into my spare house & cobble a run together, but digging the fence posts out is a bit much to undertake in the current weather conditions .... Basically, have I lost the plot , I already have 4 separate houses & runs, another one won't be too much to deal with will it? ! I also have a friend who's been given a chook house & run by her hubby as their anniversary present, bless him he made it all ...& she told me today she wants to come up & chat chooks with me soon...might get to go home with a couple if I get these others Sha x Edited December 9, 2009 by Guest

Chook n Boo Mum
Yes 6 laying hens...what a joy after the distinct lack of eggs in the past few months from my moulting freeloaders...I went from 9-10 most days down to 1-2 with the odd 3 egg day and even the occasional 0 egg day too ....just as I start to get 4 egg days again I could even get a few spare to sell again, that would make my friends very happy ladies again The number of times I get told I must be swimming in eggs followed by when I explain why not, and asked why they aren't in the pot Strangely enough those people don't get offered my eggs !!!!! Chook n Boo Mum
DH is not impressed though..he's gone from "well you've got a spare house" last night, so I emailed the lady........to "haven't we got enough" today as she replies to say "after lunch is fine" Sha x
Chicken Shirl
He'll be fine Sha. They always are in the end. Just have to make sure you can fit a bit of time in with him whenever you can. So demanding arn't they. My DH always say's that he would do better if he had a few feathers.

Sha x You won`t even notice one more house to clean, one more feeder and waterer to fill! I have cut down from 7 bedrooms to 5 and it hasn`t really changed my routine When you have more than Tasha we will worry!!! So...........................................................are they home yet?

Space Chick
I had the urge I was going to answer Yes to your question However, I am going to say No, you are not mad, you are just an obsessed chicken mum, and if I say that you are mad, I would have to admit to being mad myself, and most of us on here are mad, and that can't possibly be the case.......can it...... Hope they are home safe, and great idea to give your friend some of them too
Chook n Boo Mum
The weather was against me & I didn't get the run sorted in time before I had to take DS back to school so I'm going after work tomorrow I got rather fed up with getting soaked every half hour & trying to fill the time with little jobs like making brownies with DD for the two of them to take to school.......a spot of tidying up & washing etc....delivering DD to a friend's house to go swimming.....retrieval of Berry who was in the main garden looking at the Bufflings who were in turn wedged up against the gate looking terrified......I've bred wusses Tomorrow I have to crawl into the run & insert some roosting bars in the wooden house which I forgot to do after one of my wet breaks and give a liberal dosing of diatom etc. BTW...if we are all mad, then surely it's the others who have a problem not us..... Chook n Boo Mum
Ok so the 6 red hens are actually 6 black rocks .......I thought it strange they would be red when she said where she'd got them from, but heyho, I didn't have any BRs now I have 6 of the smelliest girls ever, due to the fact they had no protection over their run at all & it was a horrible quagmire They also had hay & straw in the shed, so I'm already on the watch for impacted crops I arrived at just before 930 as arranged and they hadn't been let out so it would be easier for me to catch them...........mmmmm but they were gagging for a drink when they got back to my house poor little mites. I did notice a small feeder in the shed & some of their crops had something in, so I'm hoping it's just food which hadn't been wetted by drinking I think they'd laid all their eggs by the time they were let out, so no more expected today and they are most unimpressed at my hairy girls They are in my spare little wooden house, which is obviously much more compact than their spacious 6x4 shed, but too bad, they'll stay warm !! I'll post piccies once I locate the camera......... Sha x
