Does your town feature in a song?

Recommended Posts

We have our very own Floral Dance.

Are you from Helston then? I spent some time sailing out of Gweek many years ago.

I am sure Henley must be in a few, although I can't think of them.

Its always mentioned in TV shows, movies & books.

The actual village I live in won't be - most people in Henley have never heard of it,its so small :lol:

The Boy knows where you live! he once dated a girl from round that way.

Oh really, I wonder if I know her

I'll ask where she lived, i don't think it was the same village though, but must have been near as he knows the village name and where it is.

The redcar and the blue car had a race, all red wants to do is stuff his face...

:lol::lol: Very clever Cathy!

I am sure there is a Proclaimers song with Neath in it

And I'm fairly confident that Mike Harding sang about Ramsbottom! Will go Google! 8)

Hm, OK just googled - was thinking of Sunshine on Leith for the Proclaimers (but they do have a song with neath in, but it was about the ground moving neath your feet)

And Mike Hardings song was the Rochdale Cowboy, not Ramsbottom. Again he did have a song featuring Ramsbottom, it was about Mr and Mrs Ramsbottom going to Morecambe. So in a very roundabout way - my town is in a song as I spent a wee while as a Morecambe lass!:lol:

Well it's not where I live now, but for some years I lived in/near Billericay, made famous of course by the late, great Ian Dury in 'Billericay Dickie'. His songs always make me smile, there's another one 'The Razzle' which mentions 'South Street, Romford, Shopping Arcade' - a place I used to know well.

Thanks I have "Underneath the Arches" music hall song going around my head and I can't remember all of it so it's the same bit each time! Arghhhh!

It was underneath the arches that came to my mind first

We are spending too much time together Koojie if we are thinking alike

Be afraid Debs - be very afraid!

Heard of it? I used to live there. I left to go to University far too many years ago to mention and not really been back.

I still remember the wind... either straight from the North Pole or via ICI Wilton with those "interesting" smells...

Why does Galveston sound so much more romantic than say Cheltenham? It is an equally good word. Is it maybe because we British are more reticent at writing songs about our towns. Perhaps Cheltenham would sound like a romantic place to Americans if there was a good song about it?

It would work - Cheltenham oh Cheltenham, I still hear the horses racing............
