A chickychickychick-ENN!!
This afternoon, I have heard the s"Ooops, word censored!"e of shovel on pavement. All afternoon. I poked my head out, and there was My nexy door neighbour's 11 year old son, banking up snow and ice against front garden walls, the length of the street, completely off his own back, so that: 'the old people don't come out of their 'ouses n fall over n that.' He's still going strong. Is that not the sweetest thing ever? OH and I are going to make him a certificate of ice-clearing excellence and get him a box of chocolates. I was so touched, given this is a neighbourhood of tearaways. I even told the local paper. Warms the cockles, doesn't it?

Chucky Mama
That is really lovely and you are so right to 'big them up'. It is so important to make them feel appreciated when they do something like this.
Tiggy
how great, it makes a change to hear good things about young people, the papers are full of stories about how terrible they are, my own experiance is that most of them are lovely people. Im glad you told the local paper about him, I do hope they print it. A few years a go our local rag ran a story about a group of teenagers from the estate which has a terrible reputation. The fishing pool was over grown & filled with rubbish, the council could not be bothered to do anything about it, then one summer holiday the local kids decided to clear it up. It is on the edge of a nature reserve and is now a beautiful place to be, when the council realised that the area was being looked after by local people it invested some time & money and finished the job properly. Now sells fishing permits to people

Lavenders_Blue
It's lovely to hear of a young lad so selflessly giving his time without any expectation of a reward. And what a great idea to print a certificate and give chocs. I do hope the paper decide to give him a mention for all his hard work.
Purplemaniacs
Well done to that lad It is good to hear good things about the young, there are lots of people who are all too quick to find fault with youngsters, there are some bad ones around but the good ones far out weigh them but they rarely get acknowledged. Seagazer
How lovely of him. Its so nice that you are giving him a certificate. Kids love praise and its nice to hear of kids/teenagers doing good things in the paper instead of bad things. There are more good kids than bad. A chickychickychick-ENN!!
We caught up with him on the doorstep today and he was quite shy about it but looked happy about his certificate and tin of sweets. His mum came out and said 'did you see he was in the paper too?!' Dead chuffed, she was. And they had a photo of him. My work here is done.
